Lexus has unveiled the Lexus RZ, its first fully-electric car to be built on a dedicated-EV platform. Presented by Akio Toyoda at Toyota’s media briefing on its BEV strategy, the Lexus RZ was joined by three more BEVs from Lexus.
Previously, Lexus has teased images of the Lexus RZ, which had an uncanny resemblance to the Lexus LF-Z concept car. The Lexus RZ seems to share the same proportions with the Toyota bZ4X/Subaru Solterra, suggesting an underlying e-TNGA platform.
No technical details have been shared yet, but Lexus has given us a glimpse of the RZ’s driving experience with a video of Akio Toyoda driving it, while accompanied by Koji Sato, President and Chief Branding Officer of Lexus International.

If (and only if) technical specifications of the Toyota bZ4X are anything to go by, the battery capacity could be 71.4 kWh, providing a 500-km WLTP range.
The powertrain, on the other hand, might be more powerful than the Toyota bZ4X/Subaru Solterra. The bZ4X gets a 203-PS front motor and a 109-PS rear motor. The “450e” badge suggests the Lexus RZ gets a little bit more oopmh than that.

Accompanying (or stealing the spotlight from) the RZ during Toyota’s unveiling were three more purely-electric (BEV) cars from Lexus, namely the:
- Lexus Electrified Sport
- Lexus Electrified Sedan
- Lexus Electrified SUV
The Lexus Electrified Sport is a potential successor to the Lexus LF-A. According to Lexus, acceleration time of the “Electrified Sport” will be in the low 2 second range, cruising range will be over 700km, and its batteries will be solid-state batteries.
Next is the Lexus Electrified Sedan. It was only shown the Sedan guise at the briefing session, but images provided by Toyota show that a hatchback and convertible version of this concept are also in development.
Lastly is the Lexus Electrified SUV which is a large SUV that will most likely feature third row seats.
Lexus aims to have a fully-electric lineup by 2030.
