Leaked: All-electric MINI Cooper JCW E revealed by China’s MIIT – 258PS
If you didn’t know it yet, the current petrol and fully electric MINI Coopers are two entirely different cars. The former is codenamed the F66 while the latter is codenamed the J01. These two different versions of the MINI Cooper also get their respective John Cooper Works (JCW) versions, and now the MINI JCW E has been “leaked” via documentation by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
Together with the “leaked” images, some specification details have also been published. This includes things like its maximum power output of 190 kW (258 PS) and 1,670-kg kerb weight. The published images suggest a sportier appearance of the MINI JCW E (in comparison to the MINI Cooper SE) with the addition of sportier bumpers, a roof spoiler, a rear diffuser, and a unique black trim on the rear hatch between the taillights. There is also a “John Cooper Works” badge on the tailgate, along with a Chinese lettering.
Somewhat resembling the original “Corona” wheels from the MINI Cooper SE are the new 18-inch wheels on the MINI JCW E. Essentially a 4-spoke design, the wheels seem to incorporate large aero covers together with black motifs. Sitting behind the 18-inch wheels are red brake callipers, naturally expected of a JCW MINI.
Already teased in camouflage at the recent Goodwood Festival of Speed, the new MINI Cooper JCW E is set for a global debut soon. It will be available alongside the petrol-powered MINI Cooper JCW. Currently known as the MINI JCW E Prototype, the upcoming performance-variant of the electric MINI is covered in a unique wrap with various race circuit layouts imprinted on it.
In Malaysia, the J01 all-electric MINI Cooper was launched in July 2024. It is sold along side the F66, and sold in a single variant only. In Malaysia, the fully-electric MINI Cooper SE costs RM200,188.
