Proton eMAS 7 PHEV is now CKD – gains massage seats, prices unchanged
Pro-Net has rolled out the first locally assembled Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV from the Proton EV Plant, located within the Automotive High-Tech Valley (AHTV) in Tanjong Malim. Joining the Proton e.MAS 7 and Proton e.MAS 5, the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV is now available in Malaysia as a locally assembled (CKD) model, replacing the previous fully imported (CBU) units from China. Prices remain unchanged, starting at RM109,800 for the Prime variant, RM123,900 for the Premium variant and RM129,800 for the Premium Plus variant.
Although the model continues to be offered in three variants, as when it was first launched in January 2026, only the Premium and Premium Plus variants receive a minor update in the form of a massage function for the front seats. Drivers can choose from six massage modes: Wave, Walk, Serpentine, Shoulder, Lumbar and Crawling.
The entry-level Prime variant, meanwhile, remains identical to the previous CBU model. One notable change is the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), with the first three characters now beginning with Proton’s “PL1” prefix instead of Geely’s “LB3”, bringing it in line with other Proton models. Up to 30% of the vehicle’s components are currently sourced locally, with a minimum localisation rate of 40% required should the model be exported to ASEAN markets.
The transition to CKD production is expected to strengthen local supplier participation, increase the use of locally sourced components and support further investment in advanced manufacturing capabilities at the Automotive High-Tech Valley (AHTV). In line with these efforts, Proton earlier this year announced a RM37 million expansion of its NEV assembly plant in Tanjung Malim, less than a year after it commenced operations, increasing the plant’s annual production capacity to 42,000 units.
Pro-Net Chief Executive Officer Zhang Qiang said, “Today’s rollout represents much more than the start of local production. It reflects PRO-NET’s long-term commitment to investing in Malaysia’s capabilities, working closely with local partners and continuously creating greater value for our customers. As we deepen our localisation efforts, we remain focused on building a stronger foundation for the future of electrified mobility in Malaysia.”
