Isuzu D-Max grabs 17.3% pick-up truck market share in Malaysia

Isuzu Malaysia achieved a 17.3 per cent share of the pickup truck segment in the second quarter of 2026, a 3 per cent increase compared to the first quarter. The increase in sales coincides with the recent launch of the Isuzu D-Max 2.2L turbodiesel range, which replaces the previous 1.9L turbodiesel powertrain. According to Isuzu Malaysia, the best-selling variant is the Isuzu D-Max Standard 4×4 Auto, accounting for 36 per cent of total Isuzu D-Max sales.

Isuzu Malaysia’s Chief Executive Officer of the Light Commercial Vehicle Division, Kenichi Kudo, said, “The new range of Isuzu D-Max with its new 2.2-litre engine and 8-speed automatic transmission has performed exceptionally well since its launch in April this year. The new powerhouse achieves new heights in every aspect, ranging from fuel efficiency, power, quietness and emissions. That’s why we don’t hesitate to call it our ‘Best Engine Ever’.”

Currently, the new 2.2L turbodiesel engine is offered across six D-Max variants. Producing 163 PS and 400 Nm of torque, the engine is paired with either an 8-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual transmission, depending on the variant. The new 2.2L turbodiesel engine delivers improved responsiveness and fuel economy, particularly when paired with the 8-speed Rev Tronic automatic transmission, which fully maximises the engine’s capabilities.

The Isuzu D-Max variants equipped with the new 2.2L turbodiesel engine are listed in the table below, with prices ranging from RM 103,121.40 to RM 141,821.40.

Isuzu Malaysia added that the Single Cab 2.2L AT variant already accounts for 60% of Isuzu D-Max single-cab sales. This highlights the growing demand for a single-cab pick-up truck that offers the convenience and ease of driving provided by an automatic transmission.
