2026 Jaecoo J5 EV debuts in Malaysia – pet-friendly EV SUV with up to 402km range
Omoda | Jaecoo Malaysia has unveiled the Jaecoo J5 EV to the Malaysian public in conjunction with the 2026 Oh My Meow! Expo at Mid Valley Exhibition Centre, Kuala Lumpur. As such, the car on display has been adorned with cardboard cat decorations. The electric B-segment SUV is the fully electric variant of the Jaecoo J5, which was launched in early 2026. It also marks Jaecoo’s first electric vehicle in Malaysia.
Starting with its dimensions, the J5 EV measures 4,380 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,650 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,620 mm. It is identical to its ICE counterpart, apart from the addition of a 35-litre front trunk (frunk), made possible by the absence of an engine. At the rear, it offers a luggage capacity of 480 litres, expandable to 1,284 litres with the rear seats folded.
At the front, the Jaecoo J5 EV features a cleaner front-end design, with a boxy lower fascia replacing the large waterfall grille found on the ICE variant. There’s also the Active Grille Shutter (AGS) technology to optimise airflow and improve efficiency and performance.
Among the exterior features of the Jaecoo J5 EV are:

Powering the Jaecoo J5 EV is a single electric motor mounted on the front axle, producing 210 PS and 288 Nm of torque. It is paired with a 58.9-kWh battery that supports DC fast charging capable of charging from 30% to 80% in 28 minutes. Driving range is rated at 402 km (WLTP), while the century sprint from 0-100 km/h takes 7.3 seconds. Unique to the Jaecoo J5 in this segment, the rear maintains the multi-link independent suspension setup, as opposed to the torsion beam setup used on its competitors. The front suspension retains the MacPherson strut and disc brakes at all four corners.
Stepping inside, the interior design and features remain largely identical to the ICE counterpart. The cabin features a straight dashboard centred around a vertically oriented 12.3-inch 2K touchscreen infotainment display, followed by a wireless charging pad and two angled cupholders on the centre console. One of the Jaecoo J5’s signature features, the TÜV-certified pet-friendly synthetic leather upholstery, albeit now with blue stitching and lining instead of white, is retained for the EV variant.
