Proton e.MAS 7’s Geely twin gets 610km longer-range variant
Geely has introduced a new extended-range version of its Galaxy E5 (also known as the Geely EX5) compact electric SUV, now offering up to 610 km of pure electric range on the CLTC cycle. Recently listed in regulatory filings with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the new variant retains the same design and features as the current model, but gets a larger battery pack for improved driving distance

The new version of the Galaxy E5 continues to use a 217 PS front-mounted electric motor for front-wheel drive, just like existing variants. The major difference lies in the battery capacity:
- New 68.39 kWh battery – up to 610 km range (CLTC)
- Existing 60.22 kWh battery – up to 530 km range (CLTC)
- Existing 49.52 kWh battery – up to 440 km range (CLTC)
All versions support fast and regular charging, and come with 3.3 kW vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, allowing users to power external devices directly from the vehicle.

Design-wise, the Galaxy E5 remains unchanged. It features a sleek, modern look with:
• Slim LED headlights
• Sculpted front bumper
• Optional closed-off grille with dot-matrix pattern
• Full-width LED taillight bar
• Silver detailing and black Geely badging (optional)
Other notable exterior features include black window trim, a panoramic sunroof, and 18- or 19-inch alloy wheels.
Dimensions remain the same across all variants:
• Length: 4,615 mm
• Width: 1,901 mm
• Height: 1,670 mm
• Wheelbase: 2,750 mm

The Galaxy E5 is currently available in five configurations, with prices ranging from 107,800 to 143,800 yuan, which translates to roughly RM70,700 to RM94,300. The new extended-range version is expected to remain within this pricing bracket, giving buyers more range for the same value.
With this update, Geely aims to make the Galaxy E5 more appealing to drivers who want better range without stretching their budget. It competes directly with other affordable compact EV SUVs in China, such as the BYD Yuan Plus (Atto 3) and the GAC Aion Y.
With the Galaxy E5 now gaining a larger 68.39 kWh battery and a 610 km CLTC-rated range, it raises an interesting question for the Malaysian market: Will the Proton e.MAS 7 that’s based on this very model, receive the same extended-range battery pack?
If so, it could significantly enhance the e.MAS 7’s appeal as a practical, long-distance EV for local buyers. We’ll be keeping a close eye on Proton’s next move.
