Proton e.MAS 3 and e.MAS 5 names trademarked, S70 and X50-size EVs next?

Proton has registered trademarks for the names “Proton e.MAS 3” and “Proton e.MAS 5”, as seen on the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO)’s website. With the e.MAS 7 already confirmed to launch by the end of 2024, the e.MAS 3 and e.MAS 5 may just be the names of the sedan and small SUV models teased by Proton e.MAS Cars back in July 2024.

Submitted on September 23, 2024, the registration for both the e.MAS 3 and e.MAS 5 were filed under 3 categories – Class 12, Class 16, and Class 35. Class 12 is the category for cars, electric vehicles, and other automobiles. Class 16 is the category for promotional materials, and Class 35 is generally the category for advertising.

With the Proton e.MAS 7 being an X70-sized EV SUV, one would naturally expect the e.MAS 3 and e.MAS 5 to be smaller vehicles. The e.MAS 3 and e.MAS 5 may also not be fully-electric vehicles, as the Proton e.MAS sub-brand was created to cater to new energy vehicles (NEV). Thus they could also be hybrid cars.

Based on the teaser video shared by Proton before, the silhouette of the vehicles suggests two more vehicles besides the e.MAS 7. One looks like it is based on the Proton S70 while the other seems to be based on the Geely Xingyuan. As to which one is the e.MAS 3 or e.MAS 5, Proton has yet to confirm.

What we can confirm is the upcoming launch of the Proton e.MAS 7. Set to launch by the end of 2024, the Proton e.MAS 7 is currently undergoing rigorous testing to meet the needs of the Malaysian market. The Proton e.MAS 7 has also made its first public appearance during this year’s Merdeka Parade, albeit in camouflage. It will feature the latest Geely Aegis short-blade battery technology, cell-to-body technology, and a 12-in-1 electric drive system.
