2026 Toyota C-HR EV debuts in US with 338 PS and AWD – What about Malaysia?

The 2026 Toyota C-HR is making a comeback in the United States. Unlike the European-market C-HR+, which offers hybrid powertrains, the US-market C-HR skips internal combustion entirely.

Only one variant is offered: a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup with a total system output of 338 PS, enabling a 0 to 60 mph sprint in about 5 seconds.

The 2026 Toyota C-HR is powered by a 74.7 kWh lithium-ion battery, with a projected range of 467 km (290 miles). DC fast charging from 10 to 80 percent takes around 30 minutes using a NACS (North American Charging Standard) port, while AC charging is supported up to 11 kW. Plug & Charge and battery pre-conditioning are also part of the package.

Two trims will be available: SE and XSE. Both come with a 14-inch touchscreen running Toyota’s latest infotainment software, a digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual wireless phone chargers, a power tailgate, and Toyota Safety Sense 3.0. The SE gets 18-inch wheels and fabric/SofTex trim, while the XSE adds 20-inch alloys, synthetic suede upholstery, power passenger seat, panoramic view monitor, and more advanced driver aids like Lane Change Assist and Traffic Jam Assist.

Built on the e-TNGA platform, the new C-HR sits lower, with a wide stance and sculpted surfacing. Toyota has tuned the suspension to match the C-HR’s performance promise, and the underfloor battery helps deliver a lower centre of gravity for improved handling.

Inside, the cabin features ambient lighting, rear seat air-con controls, panoramic roof availability, and a JBL 9-speaker sound system on higher trims. Connectivity and cloud-based services also take centre stage, with the inclusion of features like Intelligent Assistant, integrated music streaming, and Wi-Fi hotspot support.

As for Malaysia, it’s uncertain if this version will reach our shores. UMW Toyota Motor has yet to launch a fully electric model, despite previewing the bZ4X here back in 2023.

While Lexus Malaysia has launched the RZ 450e, the Toyota brand itself has yet to introduce a BEV to the local market. For now, it’s hybrid models like the Corolla Cross Hybrid that continue to do the heavy lifting in UMWT’s electrification strategy.
