Toyota secures 2,298 bookings for the Yaris Cross within the first two weeks
The Toyota Yaris Cross and its HEV counterpart, the Toyota Yaris Cross HEV, have reached a total of 2,298 units within two weeks of their official launch, announced by UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT). The Toyota Yaris Cross is locally assembled in Bukit Raja, unlike its twin sister, the Perodua Traz, which is assembled in Rawang. The Toyota Yaris Cross is priced at RM99,900, while the HEV variant is priced at RM109,900, launched two weeks ago.
Toyota’s latest B-segment SUV bears a close resemblance to the Perodua Traz. Technically the same car, it is presented as a higher-spec version of its Perodua counterpart, particularly with the larger 18-inch wheels, added roof rails, slightly redesigned front bumper, and the elephant in the room, the mild-hybrid powertrain.
The Toyota Yaris Cross is powered by a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder 2NR-VE engine producing 106 PS and 138 Nm of torque, mated to a CVT. The HEV variant instead utilises the 1.5-litre 4-cylinder 2NR-VEX engine, producing 91 PS and 121 Nm of torque, paired with an e-CVT. It is further supplemented by an electric motor producing 80 PS and 121 Nm of torque, resulting in a combined power output of 111 PS.
Interior-wise, the Toyota Yaris Cross further differentiates itself from the Perodua Traz with a 7-inch TFT meter cluster display, a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen display, and an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat. The HEV variant further adds a wireless charging pad as standard. On the other hand, the non-hybrid Toyota Yaris Cross gains paddle shifters, allowing drivers to shift through all seven virtual gears with ease.
On the safety front, both variants come equipped with the same Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) suite, which includes adaptive cruise control, pre-collision warning with autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane departure prevention with steering assist, lane-keeping assist, front departure alert, automatic high beam, and six airbags.
