PRO-NET and EVC Launch EV Charging Infrastructure Programme for condominiums

PRO-NET, Proton’s new energy division, has teamed up with EV Connection (EVC), operator of the JomCharge network, to introduce the “PRONET-EVC Condominium EV Charging Infrastructure Programme.” This initiative aims to address a growing need for EV charging in high-rise residential buildings by installing chargers at 100 condominiums currently without any charging facilities.

As part of the programme, EVC will fund the installation of chargers, covering the infrastructure, compliance costs, and integration into the JomCharge network. Condominiums can apply through the EVC website, and successful applicants will receive the chargers free of charge. A revenue-sharing mechanism will benefit participating condominiums.

For existing condominiums already on the JomCharge network, the collaboration also introduces discounted charging rates. Customers using Proton e.MAS or smart apps will enjoy an additional 10% off JomCharge rates starting January 2025, translating to RM0.63 per kWh.

Recognizing that approximately 70% of Klang Valley residents live in high-rises, the initiative is designed to ensure urban residents have convenient and affordable access to EV charging. With Malaysia targeting 10,000 public charging points by the end of 2025, this programme aligns with the government’s goals to expand EV infrastructure.

Zhang Qiang, CEO of PRO-NET, emphasized the programme’s importance for EV adoption. “We want to remove barriers to EV ownership for condominium residents and add value to their lifestyle through accessible charging solutions,” he said.

EVC Managing Director Ir. Lee Yuen How echoed the sentiment, highlighting the programme’s dual focus on expanding infrastructure and maintaining affordability for condo dwellers.
