Est. below RM60k, Proton S70 NA unveiled – 1.5 NA, CVT, AACP, 2 variants
Proton has announced an expanded Proton S70 range by adding the Lite and Prime variants, both equipped with the i-GT 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The new powertrain allows the C-segment sedan to be offered at an estimated price below the RM 60,000 mark. According to Proton, bookings can be made from 7th September onwards.
As mentioned, the new variants will be equipped with a similar engine to the Proton Saga MC3, offering an output of 120 PS and 150 Nm of torque. This will undoubtedly result in lower performance compared to the ‘conti-killer’ turbocharged variants, but it is clear that the Lite and Prime variants are intended as more conventional sedan options rather than being tailored for performance driving.
What’s new in these two variants is the inclusion of wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, which were previously exclusive to the Flagship and Flagship X variants. Both variants are also equipped with a blacked-out grille design. The Lite variant gets 16-inch rims and fabric seats, while the Prime variant gets 17-inch rims and leatherette seats.
The Lite and Prime variants still retain familiar features from the other Proton S70 variants, including a 500-litre boot, soft-touch instrument panel, electric parking brake with auto hold, remote engine start, reverse camera and six airbags, among others.
Proton Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Abdul Rashid Musa, said, “The introduction of the new variants expands that proposition to customers who are looking for an affordable yet well-equipped sedan that offers generous cabin space and a comfortable driving experience. At the same time, we have ensured that key features are available across the range, giving customers greater choice without compromising on what matters in everyday driving.”
