2026 Volvo EX90 launched in Malaysia, RM429k – CKD, 800V, 617km range

Volvo Car Malaysia has launched the 2026 Volvo EX90, priced at RM 428,888 and available in only one variant, the Twin Motor Performance. Locally assembled in Shah Alam, Selangor, the 2026 Volvo EX90 now features an 800-volt architecture, as well as a new core computer that improves AI functions and the functionality of its safety features.

The original Volvo EX90 comes with a 400-volt architecture, allowing up to 250 kW of DC charging; the newer model now allows up to 350 kW of DC charging. Gross battery capacity is now rated at 106 kWh, compared to the previous 111 kWh. DC charging from 10% to 80% now takes 22 minutes, 9 minutes quicker; 250 km of range can be added in just 10 minutes. AC charging, meanwhile, remains at 11 kW, taking 10 hours to charge from 0% to 100%. WLTP range is up to 617 km.

With two electric motors, each mounted at the front and rear axles, the 2026 Volvo EX90 produces a combined maximum power output of 680 PS and a combined maximum torque figure of 870 Nm. By comparison, the 400-volt model produces 517 PS and 910 Nm of torque. 0 to 100 km/h acceleration is completed in 4.2 seconds, 0.7 seconds quicker despite the lower torque figure. The quicker acceleration performance boils down to the reduced wiring, resulting in a lighter vehicle weight plus a higher power output. Top speed is limited to 180 km/h, as per Volvo’s safety-focused philosophy.

From an exterior standpoint, the 2026 Volvo EX90 remains unchanged, featuring a seamless design philosophy with sculpted lines, flush door handles, and frameless wing mirrors. The headlights feature High-Definition Pixel technology that automatically dims when other road users approach, while still casting high beams on the surrounding road. The LED DRLs split open when the main beam is switched on, which is impressive. Other exterior details include 21-inch dual-tone wheels, wrapped in 245/40 R21 Michelin Pilot Sport EV tyres. New for the updated Volvo EX90 is also the inclusion of the Electrochromic roof, like the one found in the Volvo ES90. It also receives a new exterior colour which is called Mulberry Red that joins the existing Onyx Black, Sand Dune, Crystal White, and Vapour Grey.

Stepping inside entails a similar story; the simple cabin features rich textures on the dashboard and organic shades on the door panels. New for the 2026 Volvo EX90 are the dual Nvidia Drive AGX Orin chips, which allow real-world data to be collected to continuously improve the car and its driver support and safety systems, in addition to artificial intelligence (AI) functions.

Further features include four-zone climate control, a heated steering wheel, a 9-inch driver display, a portrait 14.5-inch centre display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and built-in Google, a heads-up display, a wireless charger, and a 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins High Fidelity audio system.

Maintaining the 2-3-2 seating layout, the 1st-row seats get heating and ventilation functions, a massage function, power adjustments with 4-way lumbar support, and power side bolsters. The driver’s seat gets an additional memory function. Two interior themes with Nappa leather upholstery, including Charcoal with Light Ash décor along with Cardamom with Brown Ash décor. Boot space capacity is 384 litres with all seats up, expandable to 1,057 litres when the third-row seats are folded, and up to 2,135 litres when all seats are folded. The frunk capacity, meanwhile, is 46 litres.

As expected from the ‘Selamat’ brand, the 2026 Volvo EX90 features an abundance of driver assistance and safety features, which include a 360º camera with 3D view, Pilot Assist, Run-off Road Mitigation, Road Sign Information, rear cross-traffic alert with low-speed auto brake, pedestrian, cyclist and scooter steering avoidance, Park Pilot Assist, occupant sensing, emergency stop assist and safety call, door opening alert, collision avoidance and mitigation, and Blind Spot Information System, as well as nine airbags.

One last thing to note is the removal of the LiDAR sensor. Current pre-updated Volvo EX90 customers will still enjoy the LiDAR benefits, but will not receive any further updates to the system.
