Proton showcases future technologies at GATE 2026, highlights ISO 50001:2018 certification

During the Global Automotive and Technology Expo 2026 (GATE 2026), held from August 26–28 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), Proton highlighted its latest developments in hybrid technology, EVs and smart connected vehicles. Under the theme “PROTON ADVANCES. MALAYSIA MOVES FORWARD,” the national automaker demonstrated how its evolving mobility ecosystem supports Malaysia’s push to become a regional automotive technology hub.

Proton Deputy Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Ir. Abdul Rashid Musa said, “Proton has changed significantly since our partnership with Geely began. We have renewed our model range, strengthened engineering and manufacturing, developed new energy vehicle capabilities and brought more advanced technology to Malaysian consumers. GATE 2026 allows us to show that progress through the systems behind our vehicles, not only the vehicles themselves.”

The Proton booth highlights five technology areas that improve performance, safety, connectivity and the overall ownership experience: HEV technology, Electrical and Electronic Architecture (EEA), 1.5-litre i-GT engine technology, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), as well as infotainment and connectivity technology developed with ACO Tech.

During the GATE 2026 opening ceremony, Proton highlighted its ISO 50001:2018 Energy Management Systems certification from the British Standards Institution (BSI). As the first passenger vehicle manufacturer in Malaysia to receive this certification, Proton established a structured framework to continuously monitor and improve energy performance across its manufacturing operations. This system supports the automaker’s target of a 2% annual efficiency increase, building on initiatives at Tanjung Malim such as solar power generation, real-time digital monitoring and production system optimisation, which prevented roughly 48,453 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions through December 2025.

Proton recorded 157,976 vehicle sales in 2025, with exports reaching a 13-year high of 6,000 units. Growth surged further during the first seven months of 2026, with sales reaching 118,788 units — a 38.7% jump year-over-year. This momentum was driven by 21,808 Proton e.MAS electrified vehicles, headlined by the top-selling Proton e.MAS 5 EV and Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV.
