Porsche’s new EV goes 0-100km/h in 2.1 seconds- But it only exists in a video game

Porsche has revealed the Porsche Vision Gran Turismo, a virtual-only race car specially made for the Gran Turismo 7 (GT7) racing game by Polyphony Digital on Sony’s PlayStation 5 & PlayStation 4.

We consider this a rather large milestone for the Gran Turismo franchise, but we’ll get to that later.

First, a bit of a specs/performance overview. Although completely virtual, basic specifications and performance figures of the Porsche Vision Gran Turismo have been provided:

Porsche Vision Gran Turismo
Peak Power 820 kW (1,115 PS)
Peak Power
(with overboost)
950 kW (1,292 PS)
0-100 km/h 2.1 seconds
0-200 km/h 5.4 seconds
Top Speed 350 km/h
Battery size 87 kWh
Range (WLTP) 500 km
Drivetrain AWD

So, it’s an imaginary hypercar that produces an imaginary 1,292 PS, while managing to obtain an imaginary 500-km WLTP range with a 87-kWh battery pack.

Exterior and Interior of the Porsche Vision Gran Turismo

On the outside, the Porsche Vision Gran Turismo carries strong modern-day Porsche DNA as seen in the light-strip tail lights, the four-point LED headlights, and the 911-ish roofline, albeit a lot more low-slung.

Getting on the inside, the curved hologram display is instantly recognizable as a Porsche-design. The three-dial meter cluster is something that has been in Porsches since the days of the 356.

Commenting on the interior, Markus Auerbach, Head of Interior Design at Porsche said, “We spent a long time considering the right material design consisting of carbon and titanium. The aim was to reduce weight while increasing performance,”

“In addition, sustainable aspects also play a role in forward-looking projects. For example, we only used entirely vegan materials in the concept car.”

For 20 years, the Gran Turismo series has never had Porsche in its roster

With Gran Turismo 7, the Gran Turismo game series is entering its 8th installation (with “Gran Turismo Sport” sliding in between GT6 and GT7).

Gran Turismo 7 (2022) Porsche available

Porsche hasn’t officially appeared in the Gran Turismo series for 20 years from the “Gran Turismo” to “Gran Turismo 6”, and this was due to one simple reason.

And that simple reason was…

EA games had an exclusive licensing deal with Porsche to use its cars in games

That exclusive licensing deal meant that only EA games had the right to use Porsche cars in their games, and that deal lasted for a good 16 years from 2001 to 2016.

With the deal ended in 2016, Polyphony digital finally had the green light to use Porsche cars in their 7th installation released in 2017, Gran Turismo Sport.

From GT to GT6 Porsche cars were only “available”  through the loophole that is RUF GmbH, a Porsche tuner.

RUF CTR2 in Gran Turismo 2. An alternative to non-EA game developers was to use RUF cars instead.

Since RUF works off unmarked Porsche chassis and, along with parts it manufactures, its vehicles are considered production models unto RUF, and not as modified Porsche cars.

Porsche only began to appear in Gran Turismo in its 7th installation, “Gran Turismo Sport”.

Under the current partnership, both Porsche and Polyphony Digital seem to have deep appreciation for one another. Kazunori Yamauchi, President of Polyphony Digital said, “The appeal of a Porsche comes from its purist design,”

“And in terms of engineering expertise, both we and Porsche follow the same perfectionist philosophy. We share the same passion for racing and are looking to the future of the car.”

Virtually visiting the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart

From Porsche’s side, Robert Ader, Vice President Marketing at Porsche AG said, “We can engage young and digital target groups in the place where their automotive dreams are born: the world of gaming,”

“The partnership with Polyphony Digital and ‘Gran Turismo’ is a perfect fit for Porsche, because motorsport – whether real or virtual – is part of our DNA.”

Now, let’s get back to the Porsche Vision Gran Turismo

Gran Turismo introduced “Vision Gran Turismo” in 2013 through GT6, which was basically an invitation for manufacturers to design their own fictional car for the game, almost without the restrictions of the real world.

The result was some rather unique concept cars from the respective manufacturers.

Audi e-tron Vision Gran Turismo
Hyundai N 2025 Vision Gran Turismo
Lamborghini V12 Vision Gran Turismo

As such, having Porsche to debut their “Vision Gran Turismo” car is a huge milestone for the Gran Turismo series which had to make do with the absence of the Stuttgart brand in its roster for 20 years.

With the Vision Gran Turismo, Porsche has combined elements of the 911 & Taycan, creating a virtual-only, electric hyper/concept/race car.
