Mitsubishi DST Concept unveiled – Preview of next-gen Pajero Sport?
Unveiled at the Philippine International Motor Show, the Mitsubishi DST Concept offers a glimpse into the future of the brand’s SUV lineup. This midsize concept hints at an all-new three-row SUV set to debut in the ASEAN market as early as 2025.
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) emphasises that the DST Concept is part of their mid-term business plan, dubbed Challenge 2025. “The production vehicle will be rolled out primarily in the ASEAN region, including the Philippines, starting in fiscal year 2025,” explained Takao Kato, president and CEO of MMC. Kato added that Mitsubishi intends for the DST to be a global strategic vehicle.
The production model of the DST will feature a monocoque construction, differentiating it from the existing truck-based Pajero Sport. This SUV is designed for those in need of a full seven-seater.
In terms of design, the DST embodies Mitsubishi’s ‘Gravitas & Dynamism’ aesthetic with similarities with the Xforce, particularly at the front and rear. The lighting shapes echo those of its compact sibling, while the DST’s increased height gives the front wheel a similar ‘brow’ effect as seen from the side. The concept sports four decorative dash lines on the C pillars, and all pillars are blacked out, creating a seamless wraparound glass area.
Inside, the cockpit is expansive and distinct from the Xforce, featuring a wraparound design that integrates the dashboard with the door panels. A panoramic sunroof invites natural light into the cabin.
With high ground clearance and five drive modes – Wet, Tarmac, Normal, Gravel, and Mud – the DST continues Mitsubishi’s off-road legacy. While these features are often associated with all-wheel-drive vehicles, the production DST will be front-wheel drive. According to MMC, it is engineered to navigate through diverse weather and road conditions, ensuring safety and reliability.
