2025 Toyota GR Yaris launched in Malaysia, RM315,600

UMW Toyota Motor Malaysia has launched the new updated 2025 Toyota GR Yaris in Malaysia. Now priced at RM315,600, the GR Yaris is available in a manual option only (for now), and it is sold alongside the Toyota GR Corolla, GR 86, and GR Supra.

Among the new updates to the 2025 Toyota GR Yaris are:

  • Increased power and torque at 300 PS and 400 Nm
  • Reinforced chassis with increased spot-welding points and surfaces with structural adhesive
  • Improved cooling system with sub radiator and intercooler spray system
  • New front bumper with separate lower parts for easier repairs
  • Refreshed overall design
  • Updated exhaust, diffuser, and taillight
  • New “Precious Metal” exterior colour option
  • New race/rally-oriented dashboard
  • New optional 8-speed automatic transmission (Not for Malaysia yet)
  • New optional vertical handbrake design (Not for Malaysia yet)

Power is up by 39 PS and torque is up by 40 Nm compared to the “older” GR Yaris. Power is sourced from the G16E-GTS engine which is a 1.6-litre inline-3 turbocharged engine (300 PS/400 Nm) and the engine is paired with a 6-speed Intelligent manual transmission. There is already an 8-speed automatic version of the new updated Toyota GR Yaris and it is said to be making its way to the Malaysian market.

As the GR Yaris should, it send power to all four wheels via the brand’s GR-Four AWD system. The front:rear power distribution varies with the selected driving mode, so in “Normal” you get a 60:40 split, in “Gravel” it is a 53:47 split, and in “Track”, you get a dynamic variation between 60:40 and 30:70 (previously fixed at 50:50).

Built for rallying, the GR Yaris doesn’t exactly boast a bonkers 0-100 km/h acceleration time, but still manages to do the century sprint in 5.2 seconds. As for its top speed, it is capped at 230 km/h (electronically limited).

While its exterior may not look so different, the new GR Yaris now sports a new “Matrix V2” grille that features the latest 3-split construction. This enhances cooling and aerodynamics and allows customisation potential of the car. The side lower grilles have also been redesigned with larger openings for optimal cooling performance. As for its wheels and tyres, the GR Yaris sits on a set of 18-inch forged BBS aluminium wheels and a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres (225/40ZR18).

Inside, the GR Yaris has been revamped with a more race/rally-oriented dashboard that is dubbed as the “GR-unique Driver-first” cockpit that has been developed with input from professional drivers. According to Toyota, this new cockpit delivers sharp visibility and seamless operability.

Also featured on the inside of the new GR Yaris are BRIN NAUB semi bucket seats (with lowered seat position and updated materials, and with better helmet ergonomics), a GR full 12.3-inch TFT meter, an enhanced steering wheel, a 7-inch touchscreen head unit (with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto). A list of the GR Yaris’s interior equipment is as such:

  • BRIN NAUB semi bucket seats
  • GR Gun Metallic interior trims
  • 7-inch touchscreen head unit with wirelss Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • 6-speaker sound system
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • Head-up Display (HUD)
  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel with tilt & telescopic adjustment
  • Aluminium foot pedals
  • Driving Video Recorder (DVR)

As for safety, the 2025 Toyota GR Yaris is equipped with the full Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) advanced safety assistance systems. This includes:

  • Pre-collision system (PCS)
  • Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC)
  • Lane Departure Alert (LDA)
  • Lane Tracing Alert (LTA)
  • Auto High Beam (AHB)

Currently only available with a 6-speed manual transmission, the 2025 Toyota GR Yaris costs RM315,600 (OTR without insurance). Included in its price is a 5-year/unlimited mileage general manufacturer warranty.
