Kia K4 debuted in Malaysia at KLIMS – CKD sedan coming to Malaysia?
Kia Sales Malaysia has debuted the Kia K4 in Malaysia at the 2026 Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show, alongside other models such as the Kia EV4, EV5, and PV5. However, unlike the other three models on display, the Kia K4 is not an EV, as it is powered by a petrol internal combustion engine. The displayed model is the four-door sedan variant, as the Kia K4 is offered globally in four-door sedan, five-door hatchback, and station wagon body styles. It remains to be seen whether the Kia K4 will be officially available in Malaysia, but its appearance at KLIMS is promising, giving Malaysians the opportunity to view it up close.
The Kia K4 sedan is designed under the “Opposites United” philosophy. Its design cues include Star Map signature lighting inspired by the Kia EV9, rear hidden door handles integrated into the C-pillar, and a distinctive coupe rear roofline that flows into the boot, giving the Kia K4 its athletic proportions. Additionally, it features 18-inch alloy wheels, gloss black mirror caps, side sills, and wheel arch mouldings, enhancing its sleek appearance. At the rear, the “fang-like” LED taillights and a bold gloss black lower bumper trim complete its striking look.
The Kia K4 measures 4,710 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width, 1,425 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,720 mm. For reference, it is 15 mm longer, 47 mm wider, and 5 mm taller than its nearest competitor in Malaysia, the Honda Civic FE.
Unfortunately, the displayed model shown is totally locked with fully tinted windows. For the global market, the Kia K4 is powered by a 1.6-litre T-GDi turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, producing 193 PS and 264 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels, enabling a 0–100 km/h acceleration time of 12.3 seconds.
For European markets, there is also a 1.0-litre T-GDi engine paired with a six-speed manual transmission, as well as mild-hybrid variants of the same engine, available with either a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. All 1.0-litre variants produce 115 PS.
Inside, the Kia K4 features advanced technology centred around an almost 30-inch panoramic display, integrating a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster for the driver, a 5.3-inch climate display, and a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come as standard, along with a wireless charging pad and Kia’s Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) system. Other interior highlights include SynTex leatherette upholstery, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a Harman Kardon premium audio system.
In terms of safety, the Kia K4 is equipped with a comprehensive Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), which includes the following features:
- Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM)
- Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA)
- Smart Cruise Control 2 (SCC2)
- Highway Driving Assist 2.0 (HDA 2.0)
- Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA)
- 360º Surround View Monitor (SVM)
- Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 2 (FCA 2)
To recap, it remains unclear whether the Kia K4 will be introduced in Malaysia. Recently, Kia Sales Malaysia has signed an agreement with Stellantis Malaysia for local assembly operations in Gurun, Kedah, which are expected to begin as early as Q3 2026. This raises the question of whether the Kia K4 could eventually be introduced in Malaysia as a CKD model in the future.
