Xpeng X9 Facelift debuts in Hong Kong with subtle yet notable updates
Xpeng has pulled the wraps off the facelifted X9 MPV at a global launch event here in Hong Kong last night, marking the updated model’s debut just months after its initial introduction in Malaysia. While the timing may raise eyebrows among recent buyers, the updates appear to be more evolutionary than revolutionary.
In China, the refreshed X9 will be offered in four variants, with range figures quoted based on the CLTC cycle:
Long Range Max:
- 650 km range
- Priced at RMB 359,800 (approx. RM217k)
Ultra Long Range Max:
- 740 km range
- Priced at RMB 379,800 (approx. RM229k)
AWD Performance Max:
- 702 km range
- Priced at RMB 399,800 (approx. RM241k)
Starship Edition:
- 702 km range
- Priced at RMB 419,800 (approx. RM253k)
Battery choices include a 105 kWh NMC pack and a 94.8 kWh LFP unit, both supporting the Xpeng X9’s 800V architecture. Meanwhile, Xpeng’s AI-driven Turing ADAS system is now standard across the lineup, with both left- and right-hand drive models on display, representing mainland China and Hong Kong markets respectively. However, not all updates are distributed equally between the two.
Visually, changes to the Xpeng X9 are minimal. A new decorative trim appears within each front bumper cutout, while illuminated XPENG lettering now stretches above the rear LED light strip. Chinese-market models receive new multi-spoke 20-inch alloy wheels with self-levelling center caps, a design flourish absent from the Hong Kong-spec units, which continue with the pre-facelift turbine-style wheels.
On the Chinese-market cars, additional features include soft-closing front doors, ISOFIX mounts on both third-row outer seats (Hong Kong models retain ISOFIX on only one side), and physical buttons for second-row window and ceiling screen controls — the Hong Kong versions continue with touch-sensitive panels.
Common updates include a soft-touch finish on the fridge door and redesigned middle-row zero-gravity seats, which now allow easier passage to the third row — previously a feature exclusive to the slimmer “aviation” seats.
Carryover highlights such as a power-folding third row, rear-wheel steering, and dual-chamber air suspension remain, but the facelift brings new tech to the table. A 6D AI-optimised anti-motion sickness algorithm has been introduced to better control body roll and pitch, while overall NVH levels have also been improved.
Three new exterior colours:
- Nebula Purple
- Galaxy Blue
- Matte Starship Gray
To join the existing selection of:
- Starship Gray
- Nebula White
- New Moon
- Silver
- Midnight Black
Although the facelifted Xpeng X9 may not offer dramatic visual or mechanical changes, the updates refine an already well-rounded EV MPV. For existing owners, the enhancements are unlikely to make the pre-facelift model feel outdated — but for new buyers, the improvements further bolster the X9’s appeal in an increasingly competitive segment.
