Proton eMas 5 debuts at Malaysia Autoshow 2025 – Priced below RM 100k, launching end-2025
Proton has taken the covers off its next EV, the eMas 5, at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025. The car is still wrapped in vibrant camouflage but the shape underneath leaves little to the imagination.
It’s based on the Geely Xingyuan in China. You get a rounded silhouette, sweptback LED headlights and tail lights, and a distinctive C-pillar design with horizontal strakes. At each corner are 16-inch wheels hidden behind full covers, likely the same four-spoke aero alloys used in the Chinese version.
Branding is Proton-specific, with the new eMas logo up front, Proton script at the rear, and another badge on the C-pillars. The car sits lower than the eMas 7 but maintains a tall hatchback stance.
The cabin was locked at the show, so interior details remain unconfirmed. However, we know that the Xingyuan features a two-layer dashboard, an 8.8-inch digital instrument display, and a large 14.6-inch touchscreen. Ambient lighting spans across the dashboard and doors, including a skyline motif on the dash that lights up.
Other features from the Geely version include single-zone auto air-conditioning with rear vents, powered front seats, a 50-watt Qi wireless charger, and V2L capability. Safety kit includes AEB, lane departure warning, automatic high beam, and front vehicle departure alert.
Technical specs are still under wraps, but the Xingyuan is available in China with two battery options. The base version gets a 30.12 kWh LFP battery powering a 79 hp rear motor, offering a claimed 310 km range on the CLTC cycle. A long-range model bumps output to 116 hp with a 40.16 kWh battery and 410 km range.
The Proton eMas 5 will be priced below RM100k but finals figures have not been confirmed. The car will likely start life as a CBU import before CKD operations at Proton’s EV plant in Tanjung Malim begin. That plant will first produce the eMas 7, with the 5 to follow. The Proton eMas 5 is set to go on sale in Malaysia at the end of 2025.
