Mazda EZ-6 confirmed for Indonesia, will Malaysia be next?

Mazda is about to take a proactive approach in the Indonesian market by introducing their new electrified vehicles, with the Mazda EZ-6 leading the charge. This was confirmed by Ricky Thio, Chief Operating Officer of PT Eurokars Motor Indonesia, during a recent media encounter in South Jakarta.

According to Ricky, the EZ-6 is one of several upcoming electrified models, and it results from Mazda’s collaboration with a Chinese manufacturer. Although he did not provide a specific launch date, he assured that the model will arrive soon.

The Mazda EZ-6 is the product of a partnership between Mazda and Changan Automobile. It made its global debut at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show and went on sale in China in October 2024. Built on the same platform as the Deepal L07, formerly known as the SL03, the EZ-6 shares its structure and key components with the Changan-developed sedan.

Based on specifications from Mazda China, the EZ-6 BEV is available in 3 variants. The first uses a 56.1 kWh LFP battery from CATL-Changan, paired with an electric motor that delivers 255 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque, offering a range of 480 kilometers under the CLTC test cycle.

The second variant features a larger 68.8 kWh LFP battery, also supplied by CATL-Changan. It uses the same motor and provides a longer range of 600 kilometers (CLTC) or 478 kilometers based on WLTP standards.

The third option, available only in Europe, comes with an 80 kWh NMC battery and a slightly different motor producing 241 horsepower. It offers a driving range of 552 kilometers (WLTP). This variant is not expected to be offered in Indonesia.

Mazda Indonesia has not yet confirmed which BEV variants will be brought into the local market.

In China, the EZ-6 is also available in a plug-in hybrid electric (EREV) configuration. It uses a 1.5-liter petrol engine that produces 94 horsepower, combined with an electric system generating 215 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque.

There are two battery options for the EREV. The first is an 18.9 kWh unit, enabling an electric-only range of 105 kilometers (WLTP). The second uses a 28.4 kWh battery, offering a longer range of 160 kilometers (WLTP).

At this time, Mazda Indonesia has not indicated any plans to introduce the PHEV or EREV variants. Further details, including the final variant lineup and launch timeline, are expected soon.
