Geely’s next-gen Thor PHEV powertrain launching soon; 2000km range in one tank
Geely is set to launch its next-generation “Thor” plug-in hybrid system “soon,” as reported by CarNewsChina. Geely’s CEO, Gan Jiayue, made the announcement at the 2024 World New Energy Vehicles Congress (WNEVC), highlighting what could be a game-changing development in the world of hybrid powertrains.
Geely’s new hybrid system is claimed to have a thermal efficiency of 46%, well above industry standards. With a claimed hybrid range of over 2,000 km and fuel economy of reportedly under 3 l/100 km, the system promises to keep trips to the petrol station few and far between.
Slated to debut in the upcoming Geely Galaxy Starship 7, the Thor system pairs a BHE15-BHF 1.5-litre engine, delivering 110 hp, with electric motor assistance, powered by a lithium-iron phosphate battery pack supplied by either Svolt or Sunwoda Electronic, according to CarNewsChina.
While official details about the Galaxy Starship 7 still under wraps, recent documents filed with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) have revealed the dimensions of the Starship 7 – measuring 4,740 mm long, 1,905 mm wide, and 1,685 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,755 mm.
Customers will have the option to choose between 18- or 19-inch wheels, and according to the MIIT filing, the Galaxy Starship 7 will offer optional equipment such as a panoramic sunroof, roof cargo rails, rear windscreen wiper, side skirt trim, rear-facing radar, and external cameras.
