2025 Proton X70 Gains Android Auto Support, Joining Apple CarPlay

The 2025 Proton X70 has received a significant tech update with the addition of Android Auto support, complementing the Apple CarPlay functionality introduced last year. This upgrade makes the X70 the first Proton model to support both smartphone connectivity platforms, enhancing its infotainment capabilities.

Proton has confirmed that Android Auto is now accessible to current 2025 X70 owners through an over-the-air (OTA) update. Like Apple CarPlay, the feature supports both wireless and wired connections. With Android Auto, drivers can access popular features such as Google Maps, messaging apps, and music streaming on the SUV’s 12.3-inch touchscreen.

The inclusion of Android Auto aims to improve the X70’s overall user experience, providing a broader range of options for drivers regardless of their smartphone preference.

Although the X70’s infotainment system was designed to accommodate both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay—collectively referred to as AACP—certification delays meant Android Auto was unavailable when the model launched in August 2024. With this latest update, Proton has now fulfilled its initial promise of dual-platform compatibility for the X70.

However, the automaker has stated that AACP will not be offered for older Proton models, citing hardware limitations. As a result, the feature will remain exclusive to new and future models.

The addition of Android Auto to the Proton X70 brings the model in line with industry standards, where dual-platform support is increasingly expected in modern vehicles. While the move addresses customer demand for better connectivity, the absence of retroactive support for older models could disappoint existing Proton customers.

Proton’s decision to prioritize AACP in its newer models suggests the company is aligning itself with the broader shift towards tech-driven vehicles. As more features become standard across the industry, consumers will likely expect similar functionality in future Proton releases.
