Proton X50 Sport Edition Launching January 16

Proton has officially announced the launch of the Proton X50 Sport Edition, which is set to take place this Thursday, January 16. The highly anticipated unveiling will be streamed live at 9:00 PM on Proton’s Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube platforms, offering the public a first look at this limited-edition SUV.

The X50 Sport Edition first debuted as a concept at the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) 2024, held at MITEC. At the time, the model was showcased with the “Concept” label, signaling that it was not yet the final version. Proton has since confirmed that the production version will be limited to approximately 1,000 units, making it an exclusive offering in the Malaysian market.

The upcoming Proton X50 Sport Edition Concept will be based on the Premium variant rather than the Flagship

This special edition is built on the RM101,800 Premium variant of the Proton X50 and retains its 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine, producing 150 PS and 226 Nm of torque, paired with a seven-speed wet dual-clutch gearbox. However, it lacks the advanced driver assistance features found in the Flagship variant, such as autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane centring assist.

What sets the Sport Edition apart is its striking cosmetic upgrades, many of which were previewed at KLIMS 2024. The car features a sporty body kit that includes a red front splitter, side skirts, and rear spats, along with an exclusive black paint finish. Gloss black accents on the grille surround and tailgate garnish replace the standard satin chrome trim, while red stripe decals add a bold touch. Other enhancements include a gloss-black finish on the 18-inch ten-spoke alloy wheels found on the premium variant, a chrome “Sport Edition” badge, exclusive door sill scuff plates, and a Qi wireless charger.

At KLIMS, Proton emphasized that the changes were purely cosmetic, and this remains true for the final production model. While pricing has yet to be revealed, it is expected to be slightly higher than the Premium variant’s RM101,800 starting price, given the additional styling elements.

With its combination of exclusivity and sporty aesthetics, the Proton X50 Sport Edition aims to appeal to style-conscious buyers. For those eager to learn more, the virtual launch this Thursday will provide a comprehensive look at the final product and its place in Proton’s popular X50 lineup.
