2025 BYD Atto 3 debuts globally – minor updates, still no facelift
Following the recent unveiling of the facelifted BYD Yuan Plus in China, the 2025 BYD Atto 3 has now been quietly introduced in markets such as Australia and India. However, unlike its Chinese counterpart, this global version does not receive a comprehensive update, instead featuring only minor changes in colour and trim.
One of the few visible updates to the 2025 Atto 3 is the new design for its range-topping 18-inch alloy wheels. While they appear less intricate than the previous design, they may not be to everyone’s taste. Inside, a new full-black interior option replaces the more flamboyant blue-and-white cabin of the outgoing model. Interestingly, the red contrast piping has now been switched to lime green, but only for the black interior. A welcome upgrade is the addition of ventilated front seats, addressing a notable omission from earlier models.
Beyond these minor revisions, the cabin remains unchanged from the 2024 version. It still features the larger 15.6-inch rotating infotainment touchscreen from the BYD Seal, a compact five-inch digital instrument cluster, and the familiar gear selector positioned on the centre console.
A more significant but less visible update comes in the form of the 12V battery, which has been switched from a traditional lead-acid unit to a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery—the same chemistry used in the main traction battery. BYD claims this new low-voltage battery is six times lighter and boasts a lifespan of up to 15 years.
Mechanically, the Atto 3 remains unchanged. It continues to be powered by a single front-mounted electric motor producing 204 PS (150 kW) and 310 Nm of torque. Battery options remain the same, with a 49.92 kWh Blade battery offering a WLTP-rated range of 345 km, while the larger 60.48 kWh pack provides up to 420 km on a single charge. Charging speeds are still capped at 70 kW and 88 kW for the respective battery variants when using a DC fast charger.
This 2025 update is likely the model that BYD Malaysia has been teasing on its social media pages. Currently, the Atto 3 is sold in Malaysia in a single Extended Range variant with the 60.48 kWh battery, priced at RM149,800 nett. However, with growing competition—especially from the upcoming Proton eMas 7—BYD may reintroduce the Standard Range model with a 49.92 kWh battery at a more competitive price point.
With this mild update now rolling out, a global release of the full facelift is not expected for at least another year. For now, the Atto 3 remains largely the same, save for a few cosmetic tweaks and a longer-lasting 12V battery.
