The 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 has been launched in Malaysia today, in three variants, starting at a price of RM199,888.

  • Hyundai Ioniq 5 lite – RM 199,888
  • Hyundai Ioniq 5 plus – RM 229,888
  • Hyundai Ioniq 5 max – RM 259,888

Although official images of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 suggest a hatchback-sized EV, it is actually quite large, measuring at 4,635 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 1,605 mm in height, with a 3,000-mm wheelbase. It’s about the size of a Honda CR-V.

Battery-wise, the Ioniq 5’s variants in Malaysia are tiered similarly to the Hyundai Kona Electric, with the Lite and Plus sharing the same range, while the Max has an exclusively long range.

While the Hyundai Kona Electric offered either 305-km or 484-km range options, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 offers either a 384-km or 430-km range.

Blessed with an 800-V architecture, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 can take a maximum charging rate of 221 kW. This means, when it is charged via a 350-kW DC fast charger, it only takes 18 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%.

Through a 50-kW DC fast charger, the Ioniq 5 would take 47 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%.

As for AC charging, the 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 can handle 11-kW AC charging, resulting in a 5-hour charging time for the Lite and Plus variants, and a 6.1-hour charging time for the Max variant.
