Audi Grandsphere Concept Unveiled – L4 Autonomous And Eye-Tracking Technology

The Audi Grandsphere concept has been revealed as the second instalment in the ‘sphere’ concept car series by Audi.
If the Audi Skysphere was a 2-seater coupe, the Audi Grandsphere has a 2 + 2 configuration. Its shape hints at Audi’s vision of future shooting brake models.
Most technological prowess has been showcased in the Audis Skysphere. Like the Audi Skysphere concept, the Audi Grandsphere concept also stows away the steering and pedals during Level 4 autonomous mode to create a spacious and relaxed atmosphere in the cabin.
Sharing technology with brand in the VW Group, the Audi Grandsphere is built on the Premium Performance Electric (PPE) and employs the 800-volt architecture.
An interesting concept in the Audi Grandpshere concept is the use of eye tracking and gesture controls.

Eye-tracking and Gesture-control technology

The eye tracking and gesture controls allow for a more relaxed interaction during autonomous mode.

A sensor directed at the eye detects the line of sight when the control unit is to be engaged. Even when the seats are reclined, the car’s intelligent controls are still easily accessible, not requiring the user to reach forward.
Oh, the Audi Grandsphere concept also has scented vents for the air-conditioning system. It helps to create a nice ambience in the cabin.

Exterior Design

Audi says the Grandsphere concept does not look futuristic at all in comparison to other electric cars. Instead, it emphasizes traditional beauty ideals – a long GT hood, a dynamically sloping roofline arc, and an overall imposing stance.
The headlight units look narrow, like focused eyes, and the lighting units reference the four rings brand logo.

Battery and charging

There’s nothing new here from the VW Group as the Audi Grandsphere concept employs the 800-volt architecture that’s already showcased in the Audi e-tron GT and Porsche Taycan. The Grandsphere is supposedly capable of 270 kW DC fast charging.
The next ‘sphere’ to be unveiled by Audi will be the Audi Urbansphere concept.
