Proton re-enters Singapore market with debut of e.MAS 7 electric SUV

The Proton e.MAS 7 has officially made its first public appearance in Singapore at The Car Expo 2025, signalling the Malaysian automaker’s return to the city-state after more than 10 years. Displayed at the Singapore Expo over the weekend, the electric SUV is part of Proton’s broader push into regional export markets following its recent international debut in Nepal.

The car is being brought into Singapore by Vincar, a well-known parallel importer that also distributes GAC Aion EVs. This partnership represents a key move in Proton’s strategy to re-establish itself in premium ASEAN markets with a future-forward product.

According to Singaporean automotive portal Sgcarmart, the Proton e.MAS 7 will officially go on sale in August. It will be classified under Category B due to its 218 PS (160 kW) and 320 Nm output—surpassing the 150 PS limit for Category A vehicles, which translates into a higher Certificate of Entitlement (COE) cost for buyers.

To ease this burden, Proton will offer a Founder’s Edition for early adopters. Limited to just 99 units, this variant will come with a S$20,000 (RM65,100) discount—effectively narrowing the price gap created by the Category B COE. Even with the discount, the Proton  e.MAS 7 starts at S$173,988 (RM566,100)—more than five times its Malaysian base price.

While Singaporean buyers will pay significantly more, they’ll gain access to an exclusive colour: Moyu Black, a hue typically reserved for military vehicles in Malaysia. This adds to a palette that includes Platinum Silver, Turquoise Green, Slate Grey, Quartz Rose, and Lithium White.

From its appearance at the expo, it appears Singapore will receive the Prime trim version of the Proton e.MAS 7. This is evidenced by its 18-inch wheels (as opposed to the Premium’s 19-inch setup). As such, it is likely to come equipped with the smaller 49.52 kWh LFP Aegis short blade battery, offering a WLTP-rated range of 345 km. Charging is supported at up to 80 kW DC, with a 30-80% top-up taking just 20 minutes.

As Singapore accelerates its transition to electric vehicles, Proton’s timing may prove fortuitous—especially as the city-state’s compact geography and high urban density align well with the e.MAS 7’s range and charging capabilities.

With its Singapore entry now underway, Proton is likely to expand further into Southeast Asia and other right-hand drive markets. The Proton e.MAS 7’s launch is not just about introducing a single model but about reaffirming Proton’s relevance in an evolving automotive landscape.
