Neta V fire incident: No product defect, occured after impact with lorry tyre debris

A new EV fire incident has been reported and this time around, it is a Neta V that has caught fire on the PLUS highway, reportedly after hitting a tyre debris. Specifically, the incident occurred at KM277.6 on the PLUS Highway (Northbound) on the morning of November 9th, 2024.

In the car during the incident was 1 driver and 2 passengers. All three of them are safe and unharmed and the driver has confirmed that all passengers are fine with no injuries, as shared by Neta’s distributor in Malaysia, Intro Synergy Sdn Bhd in an official statement.

In the official statement, Intro Synergy Sdn Bhd said, “Initial reports indicate that the vehicle struck debris on the road, specifically a lorry tyre fragment. After coming to a stop at the roadside, the vehicle unfortunately caught fire. At this stage, there is no indication of any product defect or malfunction. This appears to have been an isolated accident involving external road hazard. A police report has been filed, and we are working closely with the authorities.”

One of the passengers that was involved in the incident, Liang WaiMeng, has also taken to Facebook to explain what happened. According to him, they stopped the car on the emergency lane after the impact. About 5 minutes after clearing the car, it started to catch fire.

The Neta V was launched in Malaysia in October 2023 with a starting price of RM100,000. It joins the BYD Dolphin and the MG4 as one of the more affordable EV options in Malaysia, although the Neta V is considerably underequipped in comparison. The Neta V is powered by a small 38.54 kWh battery that provides up to 380 km of range on the NEDC test cycle.
