Mazda 6e set to enter Europe and UK: Will Malaysia be next?

The fully electric Mazda 6e, the European version of the China-launched Mazda EZ-6, is gearing up for its debut in Europe during the summer of 2025. This marks the next step in Mazda’s electric evolution, offering a sleek sedan with impressive range and advanced features.

The Mazda 6e will be available in two configurations:

1.
Mazda 6e Base Model

Battery: 68.8-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP)

Range: 479 km (WLTP standard)

Power: 258 PS

Torque: 320 Nm

Performance: 0-100 km/h in 7.6 seconds, top speed of 175 km/h

• DC fast charging (200 kW): 10-80% in 22 minutes; adds 235 km in 15 minutes

• AC charging (11 kW): 10-80% in 8 hours

2.
Mazda 6e Long Range

Battery: 80-kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC)

Range: 552 km (WLTP standard)

Power: 245 PS

Torque: 320 Nm

Performance: 0-100 km/h in 7.8 seconds, top speed of 175 km/h

• DC fast charging (95 kW): 10-80% in 45 minutes

• AC charging (11 kW): 10-80% in 9.5 hours

Interestingly, the Long Range variant sacrifices some DC charging speed for its extended range, a trade-off that highlights Mazda’s focus on catering to diverse customer needs.

Mazda is aiming for a five-star Euro NCAP rating, thanks to an array of advanced driver assistance systems:

• Emergency lane keeping, front and rear collision warning, and autonomous emergency braking

• Speed limit assist and traffic sign recognition

• Support from cameras, millimeter-wave radars, and ultrasonic sensors

The 6e is confirmed for the UK market in the first half of 2026, offering a right-hand drive variant. This has sparked speculation about its potential arrival in Malaysia. Bermaz Changan, a subsidiary of Bermaz Auto, recently acquired distribution rights for Deepal EVs, which share a platform with the EZ-6.

Given Mazda’s partnership with Changan in China and Bermaz Auto’s existing portfolio of Mazda, Kia, and Xpeng vehicles, there is a possibility that the 6e might find its way to Malaysia. However, there is no official confirmation yet.

The Mazda 6e represents a bold step in the brand’s transition to electrification, blending style, performance, and practicality. Whether or not it reaches Malaysia, it sets the tone for Mazda’s future as it balances innovation with its reputation for driver-focused vehicles.

For now, enthusiasts and prospective buyers in Malaysia can only hope the Mazda 6e will make its way to local showrooms in the near future.
