Est. RM115k, GWM Ora 5 HEV now open for booking – 1,100 km range, launch in November
GWM Malaysia has announced that bookings are now open for the Ora 5 HEV, ahead of its upcoming launch in November this year. The new compact hybrid SUV has an estimated price of RM 115,000 and features GWM’s Hi2 intelligent hybrid technology, which combines performance with fuel efficiency.
Following its multiple previews, the Ora 5 HEV is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine paired with an electric motor, delivering a combined output of 223 PS and 476 Nm of torque. According to GWM, it can achieve fuel consumption as low as 4.4 litres per 100 km, resulting in a total driving range of up to 1,100 km. In China, the Ora 5 is also available with a pure petrol engine and as an EV. For now, only the hybrid variant will be made available in Malaysia, and it will be locally assembled, according to GWM Malaysia.
In terms of dimensions, it measures 4,471 mm long, 1,641 mm wide and 1,641 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,720 mm. Although its appearance is similar to the Ora Good Cat, the Ora 5 is, in fact, larger. Its dimensions are also smaller than those of typical C-segment SUVs such as the Mazda CX-5 and Honda CR-V, but larger than those of typical B-segment SUVs. It is positioned as a crossover SUV.
In terms of features, it comes with full LED headlights and taillights, 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, a power tailgate, a panoramic sunroof, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.6-inch centre infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a 50W wireless charger, power seats with ventilation and memory functions, and a nine-speaker audio system, among others.
It also gets a complete suite of active and passive safety features, as well as a driver assistance system. However, the preview models equipped with the features mentioned above are not the final production-specification models that will be sold in Malaysia. The complete specifications and final price will be announced later this year, in November.
