Chery Omoda E5 gets massive RM27k price cut – Now RM119,818

The electric vehicle (EV) price war in Malaysia is heating up fast. Just weeks after BYD slashed RM26,000 off the Atto 3, Chery has responded with an even bigger discount on the Omoda E5, dropping its price by a staggering RM27,000. As part of its Raya promotion, the electric SUV now costs just RM119,818 on-the-road (OTR) without insurance—making it one of the most affordable EVs in its segment.

However, there’s a catch. This offer is only valid for 2024-manufactured units. If you’re looking at a 2025 model, the price remains at RM146,818.

At this price, the Omoda E5 is now cheaper than the BYD Atto 3 Ultra, which is currently going for RM119,500 after factoring in a RM5,000 rebate. But the real game-changer in the segment was Proton’s eMas 7, which launched late last year at RM123,800 for the Premium spec. A further RM4,000 promotional discount brings it down to RM119,800—almost identical to the discounted Omoda E5.

Proton also extended its promotion for the first 6,000 eMas 7 buyers, with only around 1,000 units sold in the first two months of the year. So if you’re in the market for an affordable EV, these three models are currently the hottest deals.

To sweeten the deal, Chery is throwing in extra incentives for 2024 models:

  • Free AC wallbox charger (worth RM3,500)
  • Free vehicle-to-load (V2L) adapter (worth RM500)
  • RM1,000 in JomCharge charging credits
  • Free charging at Chery dealerships

That’s an attractive package for first-time EV buyers looking to offset charging costs.

The Chery Omoda E5 is powered by a single front-mounted electric motor, producing:

  • 204 PS (150 kW) and 340 Nm of torque
  • 0-100 km/h in 7.2 seconds
  • Top speed: 172 km/h

It runs on a 61 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery from BYD, offering 430 km of range (WLTP cycle).

  • DC fast charging (80 kW): 30-80% in just 28 minutes
  • AC charging (9.9 kW): Slightly behind newer competitors like the Proton eMas 7 (which supports 11 kW AC charging), but still fast enough for daily use.

With prices dropping rapidly, it’s clear that EV competition in Malaysia is getting intense. If you’re in the market for an affordable electric SUV, the Chery Omoda E5, BYD Atto 3, and Proton eMas 7 are all strong contenders—each offering attractive pricing, decent range, and solid incentives.

But with these promotions being limited-time offers, the question is: Will prices drop even further, or is now the best time to buy? Let us know your thoughts!
