2025 Mazda MX-5 launched in Malaysia, fr RM294k – (CBU) RF version only, bigger screen

Bermaz Motor has officially launched the 2025 Mazda MX-5 RF in Malaysia, featuring the latest ND3 update and, for the first time through official channels, a six-speed manual transmission. Offered exclusively in RF (Retractable Fastback) form with the 2.0L engine, the iconic two-seater roadster remains a CBU import from Japan.

Alongside the regular variants, Bermaz is also introducing the MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition, a limited-run special that adds bespoke styling and trim elements to celebrate the Miata’s 35-year legacy.

Prices (OTR without insurance):

  • MX-5 RF 2.0L MTRM294,154
  • MX-5 RF 2.0L ATRM296,154

Both variants come with a 5-year warranty and 5-year free maintenance package (including parts, labour, and lubricants).

Powertrain:

  • 2.0L naturally aspirated Skyactiv-G, 4-cylinder
  • 184 PS at 7,000 rpm, 205 Nm at 4,000 rpm
  • Rear-wheel drive
  • 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic

This 2025 model is the third revision (ND3) of the fourth-generation MX-5, featuring a series of updates first introduced in Japan in late 2023:

Exterior changes:

  • New LED headlamps with integrated daytime running lights
  • Revised tail lamps with a ‘jet afterburner’ effect
  • Slightly redesigned front grille to accommodate radar (not used locally)
  • New exterior colour: Aero Grey Metallic
  • Other options: Deep Crystal Blue, Jet Black, Machine Grey, Snowflake White Pearl, Soul Red Crystal

In the interior of the 2025 Mazda MX-5 ND3 is where most people will be able to tell the immediate difference compared to the previous facelift. The interior changes are:

  • Larger 8.8-inch touchscreen angled toward the driver
  • USB-C ports and frameless rear-view mirror
  • Revised instrument cluster with improved legibility

On the Mechanical side of things, Mazda has also enhanced a few bits to enable their sports car to perform better than before: The changes made were:

  • Steering system with 5% less friction, revised assist motor control
  • Continued use of Kinematic Posture Control for better stability during cornering

The new 6MT variant isn’t just about swapping gears manually. It brings performance upgrades over the auto version:

  • Asymmetric limited-slip differential with improved deceleration stability
  • DSC-Track mode – A more lenient stability control setting that lets the driver push harder while still offering safety backup
  • Manual top speed: 220 km/h (20 km/h more than auto)

This makes the manual variant the more enthusiast-focused option, staying true to the MX-5’s “Jinba Ittai” spirit of driver-and-car as one.

As standard equipment both AT and MT variants include:

  • 17-inch black alloys with 205/45 tyres
  • Adaptive LED headlights with auto high beam
  • Auto wipers and walk-away door lock
  • Black leather upholstery
  • Auto air-conditioning
  • Auto-dimming rear-view mirror
  • Paddle shifters and drive mode selector (auto only)
  • 4.6-inch colour multi-info display
  • 8.8-inch display with wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto
  • Bluetooth, voice command, reverse camera
  • 9-speaker Bose sound system with headrest speakers

Safety kit that comes standard in the 2025 Mazda MX-5 are:

  • Front/rear autonomous emergency braking (Smart Brake Support)
  • Blind spot monitoring
  • Rear cross traffic alert
  • Lane departure warning
  • Driver attention alert

In addition to the regular models, Bermaz is offering the MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition in RF 2.0L AT form, priced at RM316,154. Only four units will be sold in Malaysia, including unit number 15, which will be registered by Bermaz themselves.

Unique features:

• Exclusive Artisan Red Premium Metallic paint

Tan and black leather interior with contrast stitching

• ‘35th Anniversary’ badging on headrests, mats, and door

• 17-inch Bright Metallic alloys

• Based on Japan’s S Leather Package V Selection

Mechanically, it’s identical to the standard automatic variant but offers a more luxurious, commemorative look. Artisan Red is exclusive to this edition and not available for the regular models.

The 2025 Mazda MX-5 RF continues to uphold its reputation as one of the last true lightweight sports cars on the market. With the return of the manual option and meaningful ND3 upgrades, Bermaz is giving Malaysian enthusiasts a properly sorted, purist-friendly roadster.

And if you’re looking for something truly special, the 35th Anniversary Edition adds just enough flair and exclusivity—though with only four units, you’ll have to move fast.
