2025 BMW i4 update: 22km more range, new M60 xDrive variant

The BMW i4 has received a minor update for 2025. It is among the few models subtly updated for summer 2025, along with the likes of the 1 Series, 2 Series Gran Coupe, 2 Series Active Tourer, X1, X2, 7 Series, X3, iX, X5 M Competition, and X6 M Competition. The updates for the i4 are:

  • Increased range (by up to 22 km, depending on variant)
  • New range-topping i4 M60 xDrive variant (to replace i4 M50 xDrive)

The update that effects the entire i4 variant lineup is the new silicon carbide (SiC) inverter which reduces energy consumption by 4.5%. This is the reason why the i4 now gets a range boost of up to 22 km, depending on the variant. The updated i4 eDrive35 reports a range of 428 km, while the updated i4 eDrive40 reports a range of 510 km.

What is most significant in this update for the i4 is its introduction of a new range-topping variant – the i4 M60 xDrive. Set to replace the i4 M50 xDrive, the M60 provides an additional 57 hp (42 kW) over its predecessor. It is also 0.2 seconds quicker in the century sprint, capable of doing 0-100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds. As for its range, the M60 xDrive can be driven for 433km, before it runs out of juice.

A general improvement that comes with this “summer 2025” update is the BMW Maps user interface upgrades in BMW Operating System 8.5. For faster access to frequently used functions, the home screen of the control display will feature direct touch buttons for “Home” and “Work” in the BMW Maps QuickSelect Widget, for example.

As for BMW Operating System 9 (for smaller models like the X1, X2, etc.), it gets a comprehensive upgrade like an improved Intelligent Personal Assistant, improved language control (for Turkey, Greece, Hungary), Amazon Alexa integration, and a second voice option.

In Malaysia, the i4 is currently available as the i4 eDrive35 M Sport variant only. It costs RM315,600 with the “BMW Service & Repair Inclusive” package. Want to know more about the Malaysian-spec BMW i4? Watch our review in the attached video below…
