2027 Omoda C9 facelift revealed in China – drops flush door handles

The Omoda C9 has been in Malaysia for less than two years, but in China, where it’s known as the Exeed EX6, it has been on the road for three years, so a facelift was inevitable. Chery’s premium brand has released images of the facelifted model’s exterior, and at first glance, a lot has been updated.

The front fascia looks entirely new, featuring a split-headlight design with a full-width light bar at the top, while the main headlights are positioned below. A C-shaped signature light surrounds the main headlights, while a revised body-coloured hexagonal front grille completes the front end.

Along the sides, an additional driver-assistance camera has been mounted on the front fender, while the previous fender trim pieces have been omitted. The door handles also appear to have switched to conventional pull-type units instead of the previous flush pop-out design, aligning with China’s ban on hidden door handles. The wheels have also been redesigned, featuring a sportier dual-flanged five-spoke design finished in a two-tone colour scheme.

At the rear, the large vertical reflectors have been replaced with horizontal units, while a sleeker lower bumper trim gives the rear end a cleaner appearance. The rear spoiler also appears to have lost its two protruding third brake lights, replaced by a slim light bar positioned deeper towards the rear windscreen. The interior has yet to be revealed.

Powertrain-wise, it too has not been revealed yet, but it is expected to carry over the existing 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, producing 262 PS and 400 Nm of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The same is expected for the PHEV variant, which combines a 1.5-litre engine with dual electric motors and a three-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT), producing a combined output of 537 PS and 630 Nm of torque.

There is still no word on whether the facelifted model will be offered in overseas markets, let alone make its way to Malaysian shores.
