Volvo unveils major tech upgrades for 2026 models

Volvo is enhancing its 2026 lineup with two major technology upgrades, improving both the user experience and infotainment system in multiple models. These updates will bring a faster, more intuitive infotainment system and seamless public charging for electric models in Europe.

These upgrades will be included in the XC40, EX40, EC40, S60, V60, V60 Cross Country, V90, and V90 Cross Country. The new Snapdragon® Cockpit Platform will also be introduced in the XC90. Additionally, millions of existing Volvo cars will receive the new-generation Volvo Car UX through over-the-air (OTA) software updates.

Volvo’s new user experience (UX), already featured in the EX30, EX90, and new XC90, will now be available across more models. This updated system is designed to be safer, more intuitive, and more personalized, simplifying interactions with the infotainment system.

Key Features of the New Volvo Car UX:

Smarter Home Screen – Displays frequently used apps like navigation, media, and phone for quick access.

Contextual Bar – Adjusts based on driving conditions, showing recently used apps and relevant information.

Updated Driver Display – A larger and clearer navigation view behind the steering wheel for improved visibility.

This new interface will come standard on all 2026 models and will also be available via OTA updates to around 2.5 million existing Volvo vehicles built since 2020.

“By introducing our new-generation Volvo Car UX across our lineup, we aim to create a consistent and user-friendly experience in all our vehicles,” said Erik Severinson, Volvo Cars’ Chief Product and Strategy Officer.

Volvo is integrating the Snapdragon® Cockpit Platform from Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., bringing a huge boost in speed and performance to its infotainment system.

Performance Improvements:

More than twice as fast as the previous infotainment system.

Up to 10 times faster graphics processing, ensuring smooth visuals and animations.

Lag-free performance, reducing distractions and improving safety.

This advanced Snapdragon chip will be included in the XC40, EX40, EC40, S60, V60, V60 Cross Country, V90, and V90 Cross Country, as well as the new XC90 SUV.

According to Anders Bell, Volvo Cars’ Chief Engineering and Technology Officer, this upgrade makes Volvo’s infotainment system faster, smoother, and more reliable, helping drivers stay focused on the road.

For electric Volvo owners in Europe, the EX30, EX40, and EC40 will feature Plug & Charge, making public charging easier than ever.

How Plug & Charge Works:

Automatic Authentication – No need for separate payment apps or cards.

Easy Charging – Just plug in at a compatible station, and charging starts automatically.

Integrated with Google Maps – Find compatible stations directly from your car’s infotainment screen or the Volvo Cars app.

“With Plug & Charge, you simply plug in and go. No extra steps, no hassle,” said Erik Severinson.

Volvo’s latest tech upgrades bring faster infotainment, a smarter user experience, and effortless EV charging, reinforcing the company’s commitment to innovation and continuous improvement.

With these enhancements, Volvo is ensuring its vehicles stay modern, connected, and convenient—both for new buyers and existing customers receiving OTA updates. More details on additional 2026 model year updates will be announced soon.
