2026 Proton S70 launched, from RM74k – new 1.5L turbo 4-cylinder engine, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

Proton has launched the 2026 Proton S70 with a starting price of RM 73,800 on the road, excluding insurance, a minor change update for the C-segment sedan from the national car brand. The main highlight for the 2026 Proton S70 is the elevated performance, now powered by the turbocharged i-GT 1.5-litre engine, a four-cylinder engine, instead of the previous 3-cylinder engine. Prices for the 2026 Proton S70 are listed below:

  • Proton S70 Executive – RM 73,800
  • Proton S70 Premium – RM 79,800
  • Proton S70 Flagship – RM 89,800
  • Proton S70 Flagship X – RM 94,800

Focusing on the major change first, the Proton S70 is now powered by the turbocharged 1.5-litre i-GT engine, a turbocharged variant of the Proton Saga MC3’s engine, and the same engine that is powering the Proton X50 FL and the recently launched Proton X70 MC3. More power, better fuel efficiency, and quieter NVH than the previous model. The transmission remains the same 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission.

The new powertrain and performance details are listed below:

  • Engine: 1.5L 4-cylinder turbocharged i-GT
  • Engine Displacement – 1,499 cc
  • Max. Power – 181 PS (133 kW)
  • Max. Torque – 290 Nm
  • Transmission – 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT)
  • Drivetrain: Front-wheel drive (FWD)
  • 0 – 100 km/h – 7.5 seconds
  • Fuel Efficiency – 5.7L/km

Continuing to the exterior, the Proton S70 receives a set of new 17-inch alloy wheels and an updated aero kit, comprising the front lip, side skirt, rear diffuser, and rear boot lid, now in black. For exterior colours Quartz Black and Snow White, the aero kit has a red lining surrounding the aero kit. Speaking of exterior colours, the previous Passion Red has been replaced with Ruby Red, similarly donned by the Proton Persona and Proton Saga. The previous Teal Bayou Green has been dropped.

However, the headlamps receive a minor downgrade; the low and high beam is now housed in the same projector instead of previously being put separately. Not to mention, the previous model signal lamp was combined with the Daytime Running Light (DRL), but is now replaced with a normal bulb in the main headlight housing.

Stepping inside, the 2026 Proton S70 now features wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for the 12.3-inch centre console display, only available for the Flagship and Flagship X variants. Additionally, the headliner now comes in black, but again, only featured for the Flagship X variant.

In terms of safety features, no changes have been made to the 2026 Proton S70, with only the Flagship and Flagship X variants receiving the Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System  (ADAS).

To recap, the 2026 Proton S70 has now launched with a starting price of RM 73,800 and comes with a 5-year unlimited warranty, vehicle mileage, and 6 times free labour service. Proton also offers a RM 5,000 rebate for the first 2,000 customers who register their 2026 Proton S70 by the 31st of March, 2026.
