Perodua confirms full model change for 2025: Bezza or Myvi likely candidates
Perodua has officially confirmed that a full model change (FMC) is set to take place this year, signaling a major development in the national carmaker’s lineup. This announcement comes as the company prepares to nearly double its capital investment, focusing on strengthening its production capabilities and enhancing self-reliance in the development of new models.
Unlike an all-new model, an FMC refers to a complete redesign of an existing vehicle, rather than the introduction of an entirely new nameplate. Perodua has already confirmed that its first electric vehicle (EV) will debut this year, meaning the FMC will be applied to one of its current models—the Axia, Bezza, Myvi, Alza, Ativa, or Aruz.
Given that the Axia, Alza, and Ativa have been updated fairly recently, and the Aruz appears to be on the backburner, attention shifts to the Bezza and Myvi as the prime candidates for a redesign.
Both models are among Perodua’s best-selling cars, but they are also beginning to show their age—the Bezza debuted in 2016, while the third-generation Myvi was introduced in late 2017. Their strong sales volumes make them top priorities for renewal.
Among the two, the Bezza appears to be the most likely choice for a full model change. Built on the previous-generation Axia platform, the compact sedan is beginning to look outdated compared to newer Perodua offerings. More significantly, it lacks the advanced safety features and airbag count seen in the rest of Perodua’s lineup, making it a prime candidate for an overhaul.
Speculation is growing that the next-generation Bezza or Myvi will be underpinned by the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform, similar to the Ativa, Axia, and Alza. This would mark Perodua’s first extensive in-house engineering effort on the DNGA platform, as previous models were still heavily influenced by Daihatsu and Toyota counterparts.
Perodua is expected to retain its proven engine lineup, which includes:

• 1.0L 3-cylinder (1KR-VE) – Bezza only
• 1.3L 4-cylinder (1NR-VE) – Myvi and Bezza
• 1.5L 4-cylinder (2NR-VE) – Myvi only
One significant update could be the introduction of a Dual-Mode CVT (D-CVT) for the Bezza, replacing its current four-speed automatic transmission. This would bring the compact sedan in line with Perodua’s latest models, improving fuel efficiency and refinement.
A hybrid powertrain remains a possibility, given Perodua’s long-standing interest in electrification. The company previously tested the waters with the Ativa Hybrid via a subscription-based program in 2022, but there have been no further developments since. If Perodua does introduce a hybrid variant, it could be a game-changer in the affordable car segment.
With its first EV debuting this year and an FMC confirmed, 2025 is shaping up to be a transformative year for Malaysia’s leading carmaker. While both the Bezza and Myvi are strong contenders for a full redesign, the Bezza seems to be the most likely model to receive a major overhaul, bringing it in line with modern expectations in safety, technology, and efficiency.
As Perodua prepares to roll out these changes, all eyes will be on the brand to see how it continues to evolve in the face of increasing competition. Stay tuned for more updates as the year unfolds.
