BEV Maserati GranTurismo Folgore and Grecale Folgore now in Malaysia – fr RM998k and RM588k

The electric Maseratis are now in Malaysia, with prices of the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore and Maserati Grecale Folgore announced by Maserati Malaysia. The former’s price starts from RM998,800 while the latter starts from RM588,000.

As a 2-door electric grand tourer, the GranTurismo Folgore is pretty much in a league of its own as the Taycan, e-tron, and Emeya are all 4-door EV sedans. The Maserati Grecale Folgore, on the other hand, is a new alternative to the all-electric Porsche Macan.(If you don’t mind larger EV SUVs, there’s also the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, Lotus Eletre, and Audi SQ8 e-tron).

While it may just look like the Nettuno-engine-powered GranTursimo, the Folgore swaps out the twin-turbo V6 setup for 3 electric motors instead. Oh, and if you didn’t know it yet, “Folgore” is just Italian for “lightning”, because that’s just a pretty cool way to denote all your electric cars (No techy “i”s or “E”s here).

The 3 electric motors of the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore have a combined power output of 1,200 PS, but due to limitations of power from the battery to the motors, the peak power of the GT Folgore is 771 PS (560 kW). It does the 0-100 km/h sprint in just 2.7 seconds onward to a top speed of 325 km/h.

With a 92.5-kWh battery, the GT Folgore has a WLTP range of 450 kmIts 800-volt charging architecture enables high-speed charging  which helps it regain 100 km of range in 5 minutes. It can also and charge from 20% to 80% in around 18 minutes.

Inside, the GranTurismo Folgore focuses on a minimalist layout with a digital-heavy interface while cocooning the driver and passenger with the finest Italian leather all around the cabin. The interior also comes with various styles of wood and carbon fibre trim inlays and stitch patterns to further enhance the cockpit’s luxurious appeal. Despite its sleek design, it includes a modest 270 litres of luggage space, making it suitable for short trips or light travel.

The second model, the Maserati Grecale Folgore, is a mid-sized electric SUV with two motors generating 557 PS (410 kW). It does 0–100 km/h in 4.1 seconds and has a top speed of 220 km/h

With a a 105-kWh batterya range of up to  500 km is achievable with the Grecale Folgore. While also being built on an 800V architecture and 22-kW AC charging,  the Grecale Folgore is a breeze to charge, with its DC charging capable of providing 100 km of range in about 9 minutes.

Prior to the introduction of the Maserati Grecale Folgore in Malaysia, the petrol Grecale has been around in the country since 2022. Among the variants of the petrol Grecale are the GT, Modena, and Trofeo. Even in its petrol form, a rival to the Grecale would be the Macan. And with the Macan now being an EV, the Grecale Folgore has a Stuttgart counterpart too.

But as mentioned earlier, luxury EV SUV options in Malaysia with a similar pricing to the Grecale Folgore would be the likes of the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, Lotus Eletre, and Audi SQ8 e-tron.

Maserati’s sole distributor in Malaysia is Naza Italia. It is handling sales and support through its flagship showroom in Petaling Jaya and it also offers aftersales services and Maserati-branded merchandise.
