2025 Proton Saga MC3 spotted – New facelift or a new generation?

After being seen transported on a carrier truck recently, the Proton Saga MC3 2025 prototype has been spotted once again—this time while refueling at a Petron station in front of Proton’s headquarters in Shah Alam. The latest images, captured by Johnny Tan, provide a clearer look at the updated model and reveal several key details.

Despite being heavily camouflaged, the prototype clearly features new headlights and a redesigned front grille. Most notably, there is now an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) cameramounted on the upper part of the windshield, indicating significant upgrades in safety and driving technology.

The scale of these updates raises an interesting question: Is this just another facelift, or is this actually an all-new generation of the Saga built on the AMA platform?

If this is merely a facelift, it’s certainly not a minor one. The addition of new lighting elements, a redesigned grille, and ADAS features suggests that Proton is planning to sell this model for an extended period rather than just as a short-term update before introducing a new generation. Given the level of enhancements, it would also be challenging to price it lower than the current model, making it unlikely that this facelift would be sold alongside an entirely new-generation Saga, similar to what Perodua has done with the Axia E MT and second-generation Axia.

However, if this is an all-new generation, some enthusiasts might find it disappointing that the overall body shape still closely resembles the current model.

Beyond the exterior changes, another crucial question remains: What will power the new Saga? Proton officially discontinued the development of its Campro engine, so will this new model receive a new engine and gearbox from Geely, or will it retain the current powertrain?

Regardless of the answers, one thing is certain—Proton has an exciting year ahead. In addition to this updated Saga, Proton has already confirmed that its second electric vehicle (EV) model will also be launched this year.

So, what do you think? Is this just an MC3 facelift, or are we looking at an all-new Saga?
