2024 BYD Sealion 7 launched in Malaysia, from RM187k – up to 567km range

The new BYD Sealion 7 has been launched in Malaysia, in two variants and with prices starting from RM187,710 (OTR without insurance). Essentially making its ASEAN debut, the BYD Sealion 7 is an alternative (size-wise) to the likes of the Tesla Model Y and the XPeng G6.

  • BYD Sealion 7 Premium (RWD) – RM187,710
  • BYD Sealion 7 Performance (AWD) – RM203,710

Pretty much an SUV version of the BYD Seal, the Sealion 7 shares many design cues with its sedan counterpart – their headlights and taillights are near identical. As for it size, the BYD Sealion 7 measures 4,830 mm long, 1,925 mm wide, and 1,620 mm tall. Its wheelbase measures 2,930 mm long and its turning radius measures 5.85 m.

On the outside, both the Premium and Performance variants are similarly equipped, with exception for a few items. Both variants get Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) shock absorbers and both get disc brakes all around. Aesthetically, both variants are differentiated by their wheel size (19-inch for Premium, 20-inch for Performance), and the Performance variant gets a set of painted front brake calipers.

Among the standard exterior items on the BYD Sealion 7 Premium are:

  • 19-inch alloy wheels
  • Double wishbone front suspension
  • Multi-link rear suspension
  • Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) Shock Absorbers

  • Rear disc brakes
  • Electronic hidden door handles
  • Powered tailgate with one touch operation
  • Soundproof double-glazed front windshield and front windows
  • LED Headlights with follow me home function, DRL
  • High Beam Assist

The Performance variant adds:

  • 20-inch alloy wheels
  • Painted front brake callipers

The Premium and Performance variants are rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) variants respectively. The Performance variant is clearly the more powerful version and it is capable of a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 4.5 seconds. Below is a breakdown of what both variants are capable of…

Inside, the BYD Sealion 7 sports a new cabin design that we will soon see in the BYD Seal sedan facelift. As per BYD tradition, a huge rotatable screen is smacked in the middle of the dashboard, and a rather oceanic theme can be seen in the design of the cabin.
