Geely Galaxy Xingyao 6 – Is this Proton’s next sedan?
The Geely Galaxy Xingyao 6 is a PHEV sedan that debuted back in September 2025. Shown here at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show in its upcoming methanol-powered variant, it is likely to become a future sedan from Proton. We can’t quite confirm what it will be called yet, but we were given hints by Proton officials that this was the ‘correct car’ to check out at the autoshow.
Compared to the S70, the Galaxy Xingyao 6 is la larger sedan. It measures 4,806 mm long, 1,886 mm wide, and 1,490 mm tall, with a relatively short wheelbase of 2,756 mm. Despite its larger size, the car features a relatively simple suspension setup, with MacPherson struts at the front and a torsion beam at the rear.
Exterior-wise, the Geely Galaxy Xingyao 6 features a waterfall grille design and a lower front bumper reminiscent of Mercedes-AMG models. Also at the front are a pair of LED projector headlights with the usual DRLs of modern cars. The wheels are 17-inches in diameter, but in relation to the large body and long overhangs, they do look quite small. Disc brakes are used on all four corners.
Although the model shown here is the upcoming variant powered by methanol (e-fuel) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system, the ‘standard’ Geely Galaxy Xingyao 6 is a petrol PHEV. It features P1 (crankshaft) and P3 (output shaft) electric motors, with the P3 motor producing 163 PS and 210 Nm of torque. The transmission in use is an 11-to-1 single-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT), and it is mated to a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated BHE15PFI four-cylinder engine—producing 111 PS and 136 Nm of torque.
It comes with two battery options: an 8.5-kWh pack that delivers up to 60 km of electric range, and a 17-kWh pack that extends the electric range to 125 km. DC fast charging is rated at up to 35 kW, allowing the battery to charge from 30% to 80% in 20 minutes. AC charging is limited to 3.3 kW, while the vehicle-to-load (V2L) function supports a discharge rate of up to 3 kW.
Inside, the dashboard features pill-shaped air vents and a wide centre console with dual cupholders positioned side-by-side, a 50-watt Qi wireless charger, and a multifunction knob. There is also a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch infotainment display, both running on the Flyme Auto operating system.
The Geely Galaxy Xingyao 6 is equipped with the Geely G-Pilot driver assistance package, offering highly automated driving capabilities for both city and highway conditions. Level 2 semi-autonomous functionality comes as standard, along with six airbags.
In Proton’s current lineup, sedan models include the Saga, Persona, and S70. Although the Geely Galaxy Xingyao 6 is larger than the Proton S70 (and is quite similar to the Mazda 6 in length), it doesn’t quite have the elements of a D-segment saloon, especially with its relatively short wheelbase. The second row seats are also not quite D-segment material. Could this be the S70’s successor instead?
