From RM 117K, MGS5 EV CKD launched in Malaysia – range 446 km, single variant

MG Motor Malaysia has launched the locally assembled MGS5 EV in Malaysia, following its initial roll-out from the PEPS-JV (Melaka) assembly facility in Alor Gajah, Melaka, back in early March 2026. The price starts at RM 116,900, and it comes in only one variant: the MGS5 EV LUX Long Range. Previously, the MGS5 EV CBU was priced at RM 135,900, which was later revised to RM 127,900. The model car pictured in this article is from the locally assembled roll-off ceremony in Melaka last March 2026.

Starting with the dimensions, the MGS5 EV CKD measures 4,476 mm long, 1,849 mm wide, and 1,621 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,730 mm. It is equipped with MacPherson strut front suspension, while the rear suspension is a multi-link (5-link) setup. Exterior-wise, the MGS5 EV CKD retains the same features as its CBU counterpart, which include checkered flag DRLs, full-width ‘MG Family Arch’ taillights, and 18-inch alloy wheels, among others.

In terms of powertrain, the MGS5 EV CKD is powered by a single electric motor mounted on the rear axle, producing 203 PS and 350 Nm of torque, enabling a 0–100 km/h sprint in 7 seconds. The battery type is lithium iron phosphate, with a capacity of 62 kWh, allowing a WLTP range of up to 446 km. The previous MG S5 EV CBU produced 170 PS and 250 Nm of torque, and a WLTP range of 430 km for comparison.

The interior also features a 10.25-inch instrument cluster display, a 12.8-inch head unit touchscreen display, and a panoramic sunroof, among other features.
