2026 Jaecoo J5 launched – RM 108k, 1.5L turbo CVT, multi-link rear

Omoda | Jaecoo Malaysia has launched the new Jaecoo J5, priced at RM 108,000 (OTR without insurance) and is available in only one variant. The Jaecoo J5 is a B-segment SUV, set to compete with the Proton X50, the Honda HR-V, and the Cherry Tiggo Cross, among others. The Jaecoo J5 is now the entry-level model in the Jaecoo lineup, replacing the Jaecoo J7.

Starting with the dimensions, the Jaecoo J5 measures 4,380 mm long, 1,860 m wide, 1,650 mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,620 mm. This made the Jaecoo J5 slightly longer in wheelbase than the Chery Tiggo Cross and the Honda HR-V by 10 mm. Kerb weight of the Jaecoo J5 is 1,439 kg. The boxy exterior design resembles the Jaecoo J7, almost resembling a shorter, thinner version of its bigger sibling, complete with a similar ‘waterfront grille’. Rare for this segment, the Jaecoo J5 gets a multi-rear link suspension.

Under the bonnet sits the 1.5L 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, producing 147 PS of maximum power and 210 Nm of maximum torque, mated to a CVT, which powers the front wheels only. Performance figures state a 10.2-second 0-100 km/h time, and a top speed of 175 km/h. Fuel consumption is claimed by Jaecoo to achieve 7.5 litres per 100 km, with a range of 680 km on a full 51-litre tank. Note that the Jaecoo J5 in Indonesia and Thailand comes as a battery electric vehicle only, while Malaysia only gets the petrol-powered variant. Inside, the Jaecoo J5 features a straight dashboard design, divided by the vertical 12.3-inch 2K touchscreen centre console display in the middle, followed by a wireless charging pad and two angled-positioned cupholders at the centre console. There’s also Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity with a built-in karaoke function that includes a mixer; the microphones are sold separately as accessories from Omoda Jaecoo. The boot space provides 480 litres of cargo room, expandable to 1,180 litres with the rear seat folded.
