Zeekr 7X confirmed for Malaysia, launching in Q3 2025

Zeekr is set to introduce the 7X to the Malaysian market in Q3 2025, with an official preview coming soon. This announcement was made by Alex Bao, head of Zeekr Southeast Asia, during the launch of Zeekr Space Petaling Jaya.

First unveiled in August 2023, the 7X went on sale in China a month later and is positioned as a premium competitor to the Tesla Model Y and BYD Sealion 7. While Zeekr places the 7X above BYD in terms of market positioning, its dimensions are fairly close to its rivals:

One of the 7X’s most eye-catching features is its “smart light curtain”, a full-width dot-matrix LED display with 1,831 LEDs that can display customizable lighting signatures and messages.

Inside, the 7X comes loaded with tech, including:

13.02-inch digital instrument cluster

16-inch mini-LED infotainment touchscreen

Dual Qi wireless phone chargers

21-speaker audio system with headrest speakers

Nappa leather upholstery

Electrically adjustable front and rear seats

Rear passengers get additional luxury, with features such as:

13-inch OLED touchscreen

6-inch touch panel for climate and seat adjustments

Boss seat with a powered ottoman and folding tray table

In China, the Zeekr 7X is available with two battery options:

1. 75-kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) ‘Golden Brick’ Battery

421 PS, 440 Nm torque

Rear-wheel drive (RWD)

605 km range (CLTC)

2. 100-kWh Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) ‘Qilin’ Battery

421 PS, 440 Nm torque

Rear-wheel drive (RWD)

780 km range (CLTC)

A third, higher-performance AWD variant pairs the NMC battery with an additional front motor, boosting total output to:

646 PS, 710 Nm torque

705 km range (CLTC)

Standard air suspension

The 7X supports 5.5C fast charging, with the LFP version able to charge from 10-80% in just 10.5 minutes via DC fast charging. The NMC-equipped models require 15 minutes, as they support 4C charging instead.

The 7X also features bi-directional charging, capable of supplying up to:

60 kW DC output

3.3 kW AC output

These capabilities come from Zeekr’s PMA2+ platform, which features an 800V electrical architecture similar to what’s found in high-performance EVs.

In China, the 7X is priced between 229,900 yuan (RM140k) and 269,900 yuan (RM165k).

For comparison:

BYD Sealion 7: 189,800 to 239,800 yuan (RM116k to RM146k)

Tesla Model Y (Juniper facelift): 263,500 to 303,500 yuan (RM161k to RM185k)

Given Malaysia’s tax structure and local market positioning, the final pricing remains unknown, but expect it to land closer to the Tesla Model Y than the BYD Sealion 7.

With a high-tech cabin, long-range capabilities, and ultra-fast charging, the Zeekr 7X could shake up the premium EV SUV segment in Malaysia. If priced competitively, it could be a strong alternative to the Tesla Model Y while offering more advanced features than the BYD Sealion 7.

The real question now is: Will Malaysians be willing to take a chance on Zeekr over the more established EV brands? Let us know your thoughts.
