Proton exports hit 13-year high, 2025 sales reach 157,976 units

National carmaker Proton concluded 2025 with a total sale of 157,976 units, with 14,655 units sold in December alone. This represents a year-on-year growth of 3.3% over 2024. Despite the Total-Industry-Volume (TIV) estimated to have contracted by 0.2% (814,949 units), Proton has made an increase by 0.7% to 19.4%.

Proton’s model lineup dominated multiple segments, achieving record breaking results. Most noteworthy is its Proton e.Mas 7 which has secured its position as the No.1 EV in Malaysia for five consecutive months (June – October) in 2025. The Proton X50 cemented its legacy as the No.1 B-segment SUV for five consecutive years, recording 28,057 units for the whole of 2025, representing an 18.6% YTD growth compared to 2024. 

As for the Proton X70 recorded 112,386 cumulative registrations since its inception back in 2018. As for the Proton X90 and the Proton S70, both maintain their position as segment leaders for 10 months and 15 months respectively. Finally, the Proton Saga has reached its highest sales since 2011 with 74,013 units. Notably, October saw the highest monthly volume of the Saga with 8,373 units registered since the strategic partnership with Geely began, while December sales grew 15.1% (7,975 units) year-on-year.

Through the Proton International Corporation Sdn Bhd (PICSB), export volume recorded 6,000 units registered, the highest volume since 2012 with a 26% growth over 2024. The Proton e.Mas sub-brand officially entered its third overseas market for 2025 with the launch of the Proton e.Mas 7 in Singapore back in September 2025. A total of 224 units have been exported to Singapore for the year in 2025. Egypt emerged as the key market with 2,280 units, while 1,316 units were exported to Vietnam under the Geely brand. The Proton X50 achieved its highest annual export volume of 1,747 units and the Proton Saga saw 3,109 units exported globally, its highest since 2012.

In an official press statement, Proton CEO Dr. Li Chunrong quote “2025 has been a monumental year for Proton. We have not only achieved our best sales performance since 2017 but have also laid the foundation for the next decade. By consolidating our manufacturing in Tanjong Malim and leading the EV charge with the e.Mas brand, we are ensuring Proton remains the heartbeat of Malaysia’s automotive industry”.
