MG Motor Malaysia previews all-new MGS5 EV, Priced est from RM115,000
MG Motor Malaysia has officially previewed the all-new MGS5 EV, a rear-wheel drive electric SUV set to replace the aging ZS EV in the local lineup. Estimated to start from RM115,000, the MGS5 EV is expected to compete directly with other C-segment electric SUVs, including the Proton eMas 7 and BYD Atto 3.
While MG has announced a preliminary starting price, recent local launches suggest the final figure may come in slightly lower once introductory promotions are factored in.
The MGS5 EV measures 4,476 mm long, 1,849 mm wide, and 1,621 mm tall, with a 2,730 mm wheelbase. Compared to the ZS EV it replaces, it’s 153 mm longer, 40 mm wider, and slightly lower, with a 149 mm longer wheelbase. Relative to its rivals, it’s 139 mm shorter than the eMas 7, 52 mm narrower, and has a 20 mm shorter wheelbase, while offering slightly more overall size than the Atto 3.

Significant under-the-skin changes include a shift from front-wheel to rear-wheel drive, now paired with a five-link independent rear suspension—replacing the ZS EV’s torsion beam setup. Additional enhancements include a 4.99-metre turning circle, and XDS torque vectoring by braking.

Design-wise, the S5 adopts a more modern and aggressive stance. At the front, it features split LED headlights with chequered flag-style daytime running lights and a split central intake with active shutters. The rear gets full-width taillights with distinctive T-shaped edges. In Malaysia, 18-inch alloy wheels come as standard.

Inside, the layout draws inspiration from the MG4, with a freestanding 12.8-inch touchscreen, joystick-style steering wheel controls, a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel, and a rotary gear selector on a raised centre console. One local-market-specific change is the inclusion of physical knobs and buttons for climate and volume controls—absent in the Chinese-market ES5.
Other interior features include:
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Qi wireless phone charging
- Powered leather-and-fabric seats with MG perforation
- Panoramic glass sunroof
- 360-degree camera
- Powered tailgate

The MGS5 EV claims 1,026 mm of front headroom and 997 mm at the rear. Boot capacity stands at 453 litres, expandable to 1,441 litres with the rear seats folded. A front trunk (frunk) is not available.
Safety equipment is extensive, with features such as:
- Autonomous emergency braking
- Adaptive cruise control with stop & go
- Lane centring assist
- Blind spot monitoring with collision prevention
- Rear cross traffic alert with auto brake

- Auto high beam

The MGS5 EV will be available in Arctic White, Monument Silver, Camden Grey, Dynamic Red, and a new Elegant Latte finish. All versions will feature a dark leather and fabric interior as standard.
With the S5 effectively replacing the ZS EV in MG’s local lineup, it enters the Malaysian market as a more refined and better-equipped alternative in a segment that’s rapidly gaining popularity. MG Motor Malaysia has yet to announce official booking dates or a confirmed launch timeline.
