Jaecoo J5 previewed in Malaysia – from est. RM120k, 1.5T CVT, multi-link rear
The Jaecoo J5 has made its first appearance in Malaysia at the Omoda | Jaecoo Carnival held at Desa ParkCity (21-24 August 2025). Positioned below the J7, the compact B-segment SUV will enter a crowded field against the Proton X50, Honda HR-V, and Chery Tiggo Cross.
Malaysia will receive the Jaecoo J5 with a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder (147 PS, 210 Nm) paired with a CVT, front-wheel drive, and claimed efficiency of 7.5 L/100 km (WLTC).
Measuring 4,380 mm long, 1,860 mm wide, and 1,650 mm tall with a 2,620 mm wheelbase, the J5 is fractionally larger than its direct rivals but smaller than the J7. It rides on 18-inch alloys with MacPherson struts in front and a multi-link rear setup, which Omoda | Jaecoo highlights as an advantage over the torsion beams in most of its segment peers.
Inside, the J5 offers a 13.2-inch 2K infotainment touchscreen with Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, an 8-inch digital cluster, eight speakers, and pet-friendly cabin materials. The panoramic moonroof is claimed to be the largest in its class. Boot space is 480 litres, expandable to 1,180 litres with rear seats folded.
Safety kit includes Level 2.5 ADAS plus a 540-degree HD Surround View system.
