Here’s the latest W223 Mercedes-Benz S-Class in Malaysia (albeit in a special livery)

The “140 Years of Innovation, 140 Places S-Class World Tour”, where three Mercedes-Benz S-Class models journey across the world, has made a stop at the House of Mercedes-Benz in Kuala Lumpur. In conjunction with the world tour, Mercedes-Benz has made the latest W223 Mercedes-Benz S-Class available for viewing.

Despite the all-new tagline, this Mercedes-Benz S-Class is a heavily revised version of the seventh-generation (W223) model that first debuted in 2020. However, the facelifted model features over 2,700 parts (50% of the entire car) that are either newly developed or re-engineered, making the latest S-Class the most comprehensive refresh yet. Dimension-wise, it measures 5,194 mm long, 1,921 mm wide, 1,503 mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 3,106 mm.

Assuming that Malaysia will receive the Mercedes-Benz S-Class S580e, following the previous iteration offered, it may be offered as the long-wheelbase variant, making it 110 mm longer while retaining the same wheelbase measurement. Elsewhere, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class is offered in standard-wheelbase (W223) and long-wheelbase (V223) variants, as well as multiple trim levels.

Striking changes have been made to the exterior, highlighted by a front grille that is 20 percent larger than before. Tiny hot-stamped stars in a chrome finish have been added to the illuminated front grille, giving it a three-dimensional depth effect. The upright Mercedes star on the bonnet can also be illuminated as an option for the first time. New DIGITAL LIGHT adaptive headlights with a twin-star design and high-gloss black inserts linking the headlamps to the grille give the Mercedes-Benz S-Class a distinctive appearance during both day and night. At the rear, new taillights with three chrome-framed stars reinforce the Mercedes-Benz brand identity.

Under the long bonnet, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class S580e is powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six engine (M 256 Evo), producing 449 PS and 560 Nm of torque. An additional electric motor produces 163 PS and 480 Nm of torque. Combined output is rated at 585 PS and 750 Nm of torque. Power is transmitted through a 9-speed automatic transmission, sending power to all four wheels via the 4MATIC system. This allows the 2,495 kg saloon to sprint from 0–100 km/h in 4.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 250 km/h. With a battery capacity of 21.96 kWh, it can also travel up to 103 km in pure electric mode.

As expected from an S-Class, it features front and rear air suspension, along with rear-wheel steering that enables the rear wheels to turn by up to 10 degrees. Tyre sizes are identical at all four corners, measuring 255/45 R19.

The new interior of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class features the MBUX Superscreen, which merges the centre console display and front passenger display (14.4-inch and 12.3-inch respectively) beneath a single continuous glass surface. Dual Light Control (DLC) technology for the front passenger display provides privacy by preventing content from being viewed peripherally by the driver when needed. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster complements the MBUX Superscreen. The sound system is supplied by Burmester, offering high-end 4D surround sound with Dolby Atmos support.

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class continues to fulfil its role as the ultimate business saloon by offering two 13.1-inch rear displays with the MBUX High-End Rear Seat Entertainment System, along with two detachable MBUX control remotes for rear passengers. The remotes allow occupants to adjust volume, seat heating, ventilation, and massage functions, as well as control the opaque roller blinds for the rear and side windows without needing to reach for the displays.

In terms of safety, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class S580e comes with the MB.DRIVE suite, together with advanced driving and parking assistance systems that include the following:

  • Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC (adaptive cruise control)
