Chery Malaysia plans 5 new models for 2026 – Tiggo 9 PHEV coming soon?

Chery Malaysia has announced the next phase of its product strategy, continuing the expansion of its Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) portfolio while maintaining the Tiggo nameplate as its product focus. Chery Malaysia Vice President, Lee Wan Hsiang, said, “For 2026, we anticipate that our CSH products will grow to represent 30% of our sales mix, driven by rising interest in advanced hybrid vehicles among Malaysians,” at a recent Chery CSH Appreciation event.

Building on the momentum from 2025, Chery Malaysia is set to introduce its new flagship luxury model in the second quarter of 2026, speculated to be the Chery Tiggo 9. Previewed in Indonesia and Thailand, the Chery Tiggo 9 measures at 4,810 mm long, 1.925 mm wide, and 1,741 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,770 mm. It is powered by the same engine offered in the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro, which is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 254 PS and 390 Nm of torque.

The other two new models or updates will be released in the third quarter of 2026, with the first model described to offer enhanced performance and versatility, while the second model is set to represent “youthful evolution, created for style-conscious customers” for the Chery brand. It is unclear which model will receive the update, but highly speculated to be the Chery 05 and the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro.

The final refreshed CSH model is speculated to be the one previewed in the 2025 Bangkok Motor Show, the Chery Tiggo 9 PHEV, which utilises two electric motors powering the front wheels, one with 102 PS and 170 Nm of torque, the other 122 PS and 610 Nm of torque. Mated with the 156PS and 220 Nm of torque 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the combined power output is 381 PS and 610 Nm of torque, good for 0 – 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds.

Lee Wan Hsiang further added that its expanded 2026 portfolio is supported by remarkable cumulative sales achievement of 30,073 units from 2023 to 2025, with the Tiggo lineups achieving 66% of its total sales in 2025. Chery Malaysia said together with the Omoda series, Chery closed 2025 with total sales of 12,930 units.
