BYD Sealion 7 confirmed for Malaysia – still want the Tesla Model Y?

Through its social media pages, BYD Malaysia has confirmed that the BYD Sealion 7 is set for a market launch in Malaysia soon. Based on the teaser at least, we can expect a “Performance SUV with Premium Styling” to join BYD’s current lineup in Malaysia.

Already launched in Europe, the BYD Sealion is a large SUV (by Malaysian standards) that measures 4,830 mm long, 1,925 mm wide, and 1,620 mm tall. With a wheelbase measuring 2,930 mm long, it is a much larger SUV compared to the Proton e.MAS 7.

Based on the BYD Europe website, the Sealion 7 is powered by either an 82.5 kwh or a 91.3 kWh battery. Its maximum range id listed at 550 km on the WLTP test cycle. Charging can be done at a maximum rate of 230 kW and this takes 25 minutes to charge from 30% to 80% State of Charge (SoC).

As for its performance, the BYD Sealion 7 is claimed to be able to achieve a top speed of 215 km/h. Based on the market, the power output for the BYD Sealion 7 ranges from 150 kW (204 PS) to 390 kW (530 PS) with both single-motor and dual-motor configurations. It pretty much mirrors the BYD Seal in terms of its powertrain.

Inside, the BYD Sealion 7 boats the brand’s signature rotating head unit. Here, the screen measures 15.6 inches in size. The cabin also gets an ambient lighting system, a wireless mobile phone charger, and the same oceanic design treatment like other BYD models.

BYD Malaysia has recently launched the BYD M6 EV MPV in Malaysia. With the upcoming Sealion 7, there will be 5 BYD models officially sold in the Malaysian market. Its closest rivals would be the Tesla Model Y and the XPeng G6.
